Improv#14- clouds—fury—noble – decadent

Maria stands in the doorway of the baby’s room and watches Michael as he looks at his child. She can see the wonder in his eyes as well as the unshed tears. She comes up behind him and he pulls her close to his side.

“She is beautiful Michael.” Maria says as she looks at Amanda Rose, Mandy for short.

Michael kisses her cheek. “Yeah she is. I still can’t believe it Maria. I have a real family. It stills seems so surreal.”

“I know Michael. I am so happy for you.”

“Speaking of family how is the little one doing?” Michael asks as he lays a hand on Maria’s swollen belly.

“Kicking up a storm. Kyle says he is going to be a field goal kicker.”

“Oh so one Football star in the family isn’t good enough? He insists Jaime is going to be a star quarterback. I still say he is going to be a hockey player.”

“He is two years old Michael. Give him time. So what is this little girl going to be?” Maria asks as brushes the babies surprising long hair away from her face.

“A princess.” Michael says. And that Mandy is. She is of course of Noble birth, at least on Antar.

Maria smiles at Michael. Who would have ever imagined five years ago that Michael would ever turn out the man he is today. He is a loving and devoted father to his two children, a wonderful husband to Isabel and most importantly an amazing friend to both Maria and Kyle. She looks around the room at all the beautiful clouds painted on the wall. Michael spent weeks painting each and every cloud and made sure that every one of them was unique. Isabel stamped her feet and shouted for weeks that Michael needed to finish with the painting so she could get the babies room furnished. Isabel of course as soon as she found out she was pregnant went into a fury of motion and turned into the Christmas Nazi we all love and adore. But Michael would not be hurried which made Isabel even crazier.

“Well I better get the bed so the field goal kicker can kick his father a few times before he settles down.” Maria says and kisses Michael on the cheek before leaving the room

I can’t believe it has been almost three years since I started this journal. My life has changed so much. I went back tonight after talking with Michael and reread it from the beginning. The first journal entry was the night my world changed forever, the first night I ever slept with Kyle. If someone had told me back then that I would be married to him and that we would have such a wonderful family together I would have laughed in their face. Back then I imagined that I would always be with Michael. I guess in a way I was right. We may not be lovers but we are still such important parts of each other’s lives.

I know some people think that our living arrangement is kind of decadent but I think its perfect. Kyle, Jaime and I and Michael, Isabel and Mandy are family. Things are not perfect. We fight and get on each other’s nerves but we love our children and each other more than anything in the world.

Even two years ago I wouldn’t have imagined how close I would be with Isabel. We were sort of friends before the whole Destiny thing reared its ugly head once again at us. And then we were enemies both loving the same man. She resented me for carrying Michael’s child and giving him the one thing he had always wanted, a family. Then after Kyle and I got together and Michael opened his heart up to her we regained a bit of our friendship. It was when she helped me plan my wedding that the real bond between us formed. She finally realized that I was not going to take Michael away from her and I accepted in my heart and soul that I belonged with Kyle and Michael would always be my friend no matter what. Now she is my sister in every way possible except for blood.

We are unique, the six of us, the rest of world be damned if they don’t like how we live our lives. We are happy and content. Much happier then I ever imagined that any of us could be. Our extended family, my mom and Kyle’s dad and Max and Liz understand us and except how we have chosen to live so everyone else can go to hell as far as I am concerned.

Speaking of Max and Liz they just had their own bundle of joy. Funny how Isabel, Liz and I got pregnant within months of each other. Mandy was born a month ago, J.P (Jeffrey Phillip) a week ago and my little wonder is due in about two weeks. We have decided to name him Xander, Alexander Michael Valenti. I think that has a nice ring to it. Michael told me once that he thought of naming Jaime after Alex but decided it was to soon. The pain was still to close to the surface but hoped that someone that one of us would have a son that we could name after him.

I wish Alex could see us all now. Sometime I think he can. Sometimes I swear that I see him standing in the room with me just out of the corner of my eye. I hope he can see how happy we all are.

After Jaime’s birth I retreated into my little fantasy world because the real world was just too painful. My fantasy world was never as wonderful as this life has become. And to think it all started with the most unexpected event.

The End.

I am so sad to see this series end. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did. :)
