Summary-It’s
ten years in the future, and the gang is still fighting, waiting for Kivar to
arrive.
~~~~~~Part 1~~~~~~~~~
Liz
Evans threw her bag down on the tile floor of her home, it’s contents
spilling everywhere. She glanced down at the supplies that now littered the
foyer of the house. She could hear noises coming from upstairs, and the sounds
of the tv coming from the living room. Living room sounds safer. She
thought, walking through the house and into the living room. Maria was
watching speed racer with Haley and James, and Kyle was sprawled across the
couch, pretending to not be watching the cartoon.
“Mommy!” Haley said happily, rushing over to
Liz and wrapping her arms around Liz’s legs.
“Hey sweetie.” Liz answered. “Hello
James.”
“Hi Auntie Liz.” James said, never looking
away from the TV screen.
Halley squeezed her mothers legs and ran over to
sit next to James. Ever since her daughter had been able to walk, James had
been her best friend. The fact that a war was going on didn’t faze them.
Although, they probably wouldn’t have such good friends if there were other
kids around. Regardless, they were both adorable. Liz smiled, and sat down
next to Maria.
“We shouldn’t let them watch so much TV.”
Liz said. “It will kill the power generator.”
The generator was a thorn in everyone’s
backside. Every two days they all gathered around the hunk of Granolith
they’d found a few days after Tess’ departure, and shot all the energy
possible into it. And that energy was what kept the electricity running, the
water flowing, and the energy field around the house up.
“If anything kills the generator, it will be
them.” Kyle said, motioning up with his head.
As if on cue, the sound of glass hitting a wall
and shattering came clearly over the sound of the TV, causing the kids to
jump. Great, Liz thought, they’re fighting again. Liz stood
and made her way up the stairs. All she could hear was Isabel demanding that
they listen to her. God, please not the Princess Isabel crap again. As
she reached the top floor, she felt the house tremble.
“Would you three stop it?!” She yelled as she
turned the corner into the loft.
Michael, Max, and Isabel stood in the center of
the loft, each surrounded by their own energy field. Max’s was green,
Michael’s was brick red, and Isabel’s was dark purple. So this is what
Kyle meant when he said they’d kill the generator. They were wasting
energy that could be pumped into the generator on something that was probably
as trivial as dinner. The three aliens glanced in her direction as she entered
the room, then back at each other with hateful eyes. Liz just shook her head
at them and looked around the room for whatever had been thrown against the
wall. She found it behind Isabel, which meant either Max and Michael had
thrown it. She made her way over to the glass, carefully avoiding the alien
energy fields, knowing they would throw her back. When she got to it, she
realized what it had been.
“This was my mothers.” She said quietly,
scooping the glass into a pile.
Behind her, she could hear the whoosh of the
energy fields being taken down. Tears began to flood Liz’s eyes. She could
still remember the day she had taken the vase from her parents home. The skins
had killed them. Killed every resident
\\Flashback//
Liz turned and looked behind her at the ominous
black clouds that covered her home town. Max had his arm around her, and that
should have made her feel safe. But it didn’t. It made her feel even worse.
Her parents, Sean, Ms. Deluca- They were all dying because she was in his
arms. And Tess wasn’t. Liz looked down as the tears began to roll down her
cheeks. They sky lit up with red, and Liz looked up just in time to see the
clouds turn into the same green shield that had caused everyone to disappear
before. She had seen the shield in Nikolas mind when she’d helped Max kill
him a few hours before. And now the skins were getting their revenge. Liz hid
her head in max’s arms as the red got brighter. She closed her eyes. The
light was so bright. Then, as quickly as it had come, the clouds and the
shield disappeared. The sun came back. And everything looked normal from their
viewpoint. Liz’s heart began to beat wildly. Everything looks ok. Maybe
they’re all ok.
“We’d better go..check things out.” Max
said, standing up.
Liz nodded and followed him their SUV with
Michael, Maria, Kyle, and Isabel right behind her. She put hand on her stomach
as the baby kicked. A sharp pain ran through Liz’s body.
“No, please not the ribs, Haley.” She
muttered.
“Is she kicking?” Max asked.
Liz nodded and climbed into the car and settled
herself into the seat, She slammed the door closed and leaned back against the
leather seats. She didn’t even bother with her seatbelt. What’s going
to happen?! I’m more worried about the skins then a car accident. There
won’t be anyone to drive cars anyway. Liz rested her hands on her
stomach protectively and closed her eyes.. She was 4 months along, and she
knew it was a girl. Max had checked it out. And the baby was fine. Which meant
that Tess had lied about the baby dying. But Liz didn’t want to think about
Tess. She heard the other doors
close around her, and felt the car lurch to a start. Her eyes opened and she
looked out at the damage that got more worse as they entered the town. This
is all my fault.
The first place they stopped was the Crashdown.
Liz jumped out of the car and ran into the restaurant. Everything looked in
place, but there were no people. She frantically ran around, looking for her
parents. For anyone. But she knew. They were all gone. She finally stopped in
the living room of the apartment, and rested her head on the mantle. Tears
fell slowly down her face. She had cried so much lately, that there was
nothing left to cry. She felt a hand on her shoulder.
“I’m sorry Liz.” Max said.
“I know.” Liz said, lifting up her head.
And thats when she saw it. The vase.
The vase had been in her family for six generations. It was handed down
from mother to daughter on the girls 21st birthday. But there would
be no handing down between her mother and Liz. Because her mother was gone.
Permanently. Last time they had brought them all back. All that was needed was
to destroy the rod. But this time there was no rod. And they all knew it. No,
the skins were at their full potential. They had combined their power and done
this. Liz knew this because she had been crouched in the shadows with the
others as the skins had powered up and prepared. Then she had crept out of
town, scared to death the skins would find her.
“We’d better go.” Max said.
Liz nodded and looked back at Maria, who was
crying too. Maria was 8 months pregnant, and she looked like she was going to
give birth at any time. Liz walked over to her and gave her the best hug that
was possible between two pregnant women. Max and Isabel’s parents had died a
few months before, and no one knew where the sheriff was. The last they had
seen him, he was going after Nikolas. He’d never returned. And Michael had
no family, besides those present. So that left only Maria and Liz to grieve.
Liz hugged maria long and hard, until she felt Max tap her shoulder. She
smiled shakily at Maria as she pulled away and walked out of the Crashdown
with the vase in her hand
\\End Flashback//
The room remained silent as Liz closed her eyes
and concentrated on the vase. She imagined in her mind how it had looked that
day in Roswell, how it had looked when she was young. She quickly pushed the
molecules back together, reforming the vase. When she was done she sat back on
her heals and inspected her work. The vase looked just like it had six years
ago when she’d taken in from her home. That day seems so long ago. Liz
thought It seems like only yesterday I was a senior in high school. She
stood up and set the vase back on the mantle where it belonged and looked at
her reflection in the mirror. And
now look at me.
“Anyway. Where were we?” Isabel said in an
angry tone, breaking the silence. “Oh yeah. I was about to kill you
both.”
Michael laughed. “You couldn’t even kill
Micas. How do you expect to hurt Max and I?”
Liz shuddered at the mention of Micas. Micas had
attacked them not even a week ago. Strong and Powerful, he was determined to
end the war once and for all. It had taken all six of them to kill him. And
now they were all waiting like sitting ducks. With every leader they
destroyed, the skins sent someone stronger. It had been almost ten years since
Tess had left earth, and Liz had not had a break since that day. There was
always someone to fight. Nikolas, Tenia, Aditya, Hechi, Micas, and countless
other ones whose names they had never even bothered to learn.
They
had all been leaders of the skins. And difficult to kill. Because the handy
dandy button in their back didn’t exist anymore. Because the skins had
gotten a hold of the remains of the Granolith. And now they didn’t have
husks, they didn’t peel off skin. They had human bodies, just like everyone
else. Which made them harder to spot. And all this fighting was leading up to
one big event. The day they all were dreading. They day they had been training
for years for- Khevar’s arrival on earth.
“You couldn’t kill him either, Michael.” Max
said, interrupting Liz’s thoughts.
This is ridiculous.
“All three of you, just shut up. Liz shouted.
Isabel turned her ice princess gaze on Liz. She
lowered her eyes and Liz simply rolled her own. I am so sick of her goddess
Isabel routine.
“It took all of us to kill him.” Liz reminded
them.
“Yeah.” Michael said. “And your point is?”
“There is no sense in fighting when we need to
prepare for the next attack!” Liz said, her voice getting louder with every
word she spoke.
Max opened his mouth to say something, but he was
cut off by a little head peeking out from around the corner. “Can you keep
it down?” Haley asked. “James and I are watching speed racer.”
Liz smiled at her daughter, trying to disguise her
anger. “ Of course.”
“Thanks.” Haley replied, disappearing around
the corner.
Liz turned and looked back at Max. Will
this ever stop?
“Liz you don’t even know what we were fighting
about.” Max said.
“I don’t care!” Liz yelled. Max tried to
open his mouth, but she cut him off. “ No Max. I don’t care! We have the
kids to worry about. The skins could come at anytime, and all you three ever
do is fight. I am so sick of this.”
Liz
turned and walked away from them toward the master bedroom. “ So sick of
this.”
And with that, she slammed the door shut, leaving
the royals in silence
~~~~~~~~~Part 2~~~~~~~~~
“Well that went well.” Michael said, throwing
himself onto the nearest couch.
“You heard her she doesn’t care. No party.”
Max said.
In the background, he could hear the water being
turned on in his bathroom. Liz must be trying to cool off. It had been
years since she and max had fought. She was always the one breaking up the
fights between him, Isabel, and Michael. But this time she had targeted her
anger at him. It was almost as if she knew what they were fighting about.
Tommorow was Liz’s 27th birthday. But there was no way they could
have a party. Not with all the threats around them. And surprisingly, it was
Isabel who was insisting they celebrate it.
“ I still can’t believe you’re against
this.” Isabel said.
“But she’s right.” Michael insisted. “We
don’t have time. We have way to much to worry about.”
“But it’s her birthday!” Isabel shouted.
“So?” Michael said.
“It may be her last.” Isabel answered.
“Don’t say that!” Max yelled.
It wasn’t possible. It was his Liz. She
couldn’t die. The thought...the thought made him weak, and nauseous. No.
Liz can’t die.
“Please be quiet.” James yelled from
downstairs.
Max looked at michael, who rolled his eyes at his
son. Isabel looked like she was on the brink of tears. His sister was right.
They all needed a little fun. Something to cheer them up in the midst of all
this war and bloodshed. He nodded to himself. Yes, she deserves it.
“Alright.” Max said to his sister.
She smiled and hugged him tightly. “You made the
right decision Max.”
“Well Maxwell.” Michael began. Max prepared
himself for the biting insult that he knew would follow. “We’d better do
something about decorations.”
Max smiled at Michael and sat down on the couch.
Isabel walked down the stairs to get Maria and Kyle. Max rested his head on
the back of the couch and closed his eyes. They had planning to do.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Part
3~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Liz awoke in a tangle of sheets to a cold, empty
bed. Where was Max. This was a new
concept for her. She’d never woken up without him by her side. For the past
ten years, she’d woken up to find max with his arms strewn all over her,
sleeping with a smile that hinted to what he was dreaming about. She would
smile, kiss his cheek softly and get up to make breakfast for the house. Maria
would be downstairs, yelling at Michael in their bedroom, and Kyle would be in
the backyard, swimming laps in the pool. But something was off this morning.
Max was gone. It was quiet.
Liz sat up slowly, her hand on her head. Her head
was pounding. She looked around the bedroom. No sign of Max. Was he still
upset from last night? Was there a battle somewhere? Her heart began to beat
as rapidly as her head. Where the kids ok?
And then she spotted the clock on the wall. It was
noon?! How could you sleep in this late, She chided herself as she climbed out
of the bed. She instantly felt busy. Woah. Head rush. She made her way slowly
to the bathroom and threw open the medicine cabinet, looking for some form of
painkillers. Midol......uh, no. Correctol.......hah! No....... Allegra.....no....YES!
Advil! Liz smiles and yanked the bottle from the cabinet. She pushed the top
down and turned it slowly. And she laughed as memories came flooding back to
her.
//Flashback\\
“Michael!” Maria shouted.
Liz glanced up from the sink at her best friend
wearily. Maria had been in labor for at least three hours now. Was someone
supposed to be in labor that long? Liz put her hand to her own stomach and
silently prayed that her own labor would go a lot smoother and shorter than
maria’s was. Sighing, she put a washcloth under the water and let it absorb
the water. God, please, she silently begged, please help maria get through
this. She squeezed the water from the washcloth and turned the water off as
maria let out a moan.
“MICHAEL!” Maria yelled again.
He popped his head into the living room. Liz and
Isabel had set the living room up to be a mini delivery room the day before,
out of fear that Maria would be having the baby soon. And now, 24 hours later
she was. Liz looked over at Michael. His face reflected how anxious and
exhausted he was. He’d been pacing in the dining room, the forma, living
room, the garage, in the backyard, upstairs. Basically anywhere but the
kitchen and the living room. Liz almost felt bad for him. Almost. He didn’t
have to give birth to a baby. All of Liz’s sympathy was with maria. There
was nothing left for Michael.
“Michael!” Maria yelled when she saw him.
Michael rushed forward into the living room and in
the process, he ended up running into a table that housed a bucket full of
water. Everything fell included the menace who had knocked the bucket over.
Maria looked down at him and rolled her eyes, as Liz started to laugh. The
sight of Michael sprawled across the kitchen floor drenched in water seemed
to....perfect. Michael scrambled to his feet and ran toward maria. He slipped
and almost fell again, but he caught himself just in time. He leaped off of
the tile and over to maria, splashing water all over her and the living room.
“God Michael.” Maria exclaimed. “Your worse
than a dog.”
“Sorry.” He said.
“Sorry isn’t going to cut it, space boy.”
Maria snapped.
Well, if Maria is conscious enough to have called
him space boy, then she’s doing fine, Liz thought to herself. Then another
contraction hit. Me and my big mouth. Maria screamed and grabbed Michael’s
hand. She was squeezing his hand so hard that it was turning purple. A little
of Liz’s sympathy converted to Michael as she watched him wince in pain.
“We need to stop feeding her so much spinach.”
He said to Liz, gingerly pulling his hand from maria’s grip and
flexing his fingers.
Maria shot him a glare as another contraction
came. This time she closed her eyes and held onto the sides of the bed.
“You.....did this.........to me.”
“Huh?” Michael said, looking back at her.
“We are....NEVER...having...sex...again.”
Maria said.
She screamed again and Michael glanced back at
Liz, a worried look on his face.
“I need drugs!” Maria wailed. “Michael!”
“Yeah?!” He answered.
“Horse pills...top drawer, in our bathroom.”
Maria said.
Liz walked over into the living room, carefully
avoiding the puddle that had formed all over the tile and placed the wet
washcloth on Maria’s forehead. “ I don’t think that’s such a good
idea.”
“A good idea?!” Maria yelled.”I have a
watermelon coming out of a hole the size of a cherry!”
Liz glanced at Michael, the back at Maria.
“Fine.”
Michael ran around the corner to the bathroom, and
Maria screamed as another contraction came.
“Painkillers! As in NOW!” Maria yelled.
Michael came running back around the corner, with
the bottle of painkillers in his hands. He stopped next to Maria and started
to push the top down and turn it. But the bottle wouldn’t open. He tried
again. And again.
“I can’t open it.” He said finally.
“WHAT?!” Maria screeched.
Liz put her hands up to her ears as Maria
screeched. OW! Would this never stop?! She glanced out the window at Max and
Isabel, slowly lowering her hands. They were viscously guarding the house,
ready to kill anyone or anything that came to close. But where was Kyle?
“Try harder.” Maria yelled, interrupting
Liz’s thoughts.
Michael continued to try to open the bottle. “I
can’t get it.”
“Just zap it.” Maria answered.
Liz looked at Michael as he held the bottle out
with one hand and concentrated. She waited for the top to come off. Instead
there was an explosion. The bottle exploded all over the place, with
horse-sized painkillers raining down over them all. Liz laughed as she watched
maria catch them in her mouth and swallow a few.
“Hmm!” Maria giggled.
How a woman in her condition could giggle Liz
would never understand. But did it matter? As long as maria wasn’t
threatening to kill them all once the baby was born, Liz was happy too. The
last of the pills fell down, and landed in her hair. She quickly brushed them
off, and looked down at maria as she started to scream again.
“It’s time.” Maria said. "The baby's
coming."
//End Flashback\\
Liz laughed as she took the top off the bottle.
That had to have been one of the funniest things that had happened to
her these past few years. She had
to hold on to those memories to help get her through times like these.
She tipped the bottle to it’s side and jiggled it until 3 pills fell
into her hand. Then she righted
the bottle, replaced the top, and tossed the pills into her mouth.
She quickly poured a glass of water and downed both the pills and the
water in one gulp.
“Liz Evans, champion water chuggler.” She
muttered to herself, slowly dredging toward the closet.
She opened the door to the closet slowly, and
walked in, looking at the walls that were lined in various shades of black,
grey, and dark red. Ok . . . so I
dress like a Goth., she thought, so what?! She began to shuffle through the
clothes. She sighed.
“
She knew she had a white shirt around there
somewhere. But the question of the
day was, you guessed it....where?
“Way to go, Evans.” She said to herself.
She whirled around to look at the clothes on the
other side. All she saw was dark.
Dark, dark, dark. She
wanted light. OK, Evans . . .
think. Max got it for me...3 years
ago, but I was still upset, so I threw it....
“Ah ha!” She yelled.
“Eureka.”
She reached up to the top shelf, standing on her
tippy toes, and felt. Come on . .
. come on . . . she thought to herself. Then
she lost her balance, and almost fell right into the wall.
She caught herself just in time, bracing herself on the middle shelf.
I hate being short. She
jumped up, and felt her hand brush fabric.
She quickly grabbed it.
“Yes!” She giggled.
She tugged desperately at it, and it came down-
along with a bow, which, of course, crashed right onto her head.
“Ow . . . I’m gonna need some more aspirin.”
She muttered
She bent over and began to pick up the papers that
had spilt all over the place, the shirt in her hand.
Great. This is great.
This is fun. She picked up
another paper and glanced at it. It
was her birth certificate.
“Wow.” She said.
She sat down, holding the paper in her hands,
reading it. Parents- Jeff and
Nancy Parker. Birthplace- Roswell,
New Mexico, USA. Birth date-
What was today’s date?
God, it was hot outside.
Was it June? When was her
birthday? She was going to be . . .
ok, this was pathetic. She
couldn’t remember her age. She
quickly stood up, ignoring the blood rush to her head and hurried out of the
room, leaving the closet a mess. She
descended the stairs three at a time, racing toward the kitchen, where she knew
there was a calendar. Maria always
kept track of the date by marking it off on the calendar.
She would know. Right?
