The air vibrated with electricity as the sun melted into the horizon. The colors streaked through the sky as it mingled amongst the treetops.

The fresh mountain air felt foreign to him. The smell of the vast wilderness overwhelmed his senses. He suddenly felt alive, he felt free.

He needed a new start, he needed a new life.

"Mr. Valenti. Your keys," the real estate agent replied as she handed over a set of keys to his new cabin.

Kyle smiled and held the keys to his chest, "Thank you."

"My pleasure," she replied as she walked to the door. "Remember what I told you."

"I will," he whispered as he watched her leave. He had no plans in following her suggestions. He came here alone, determined to be far away from any alien activity.

He sighed as he pushed back the memories of his past. He walked out onto the balcony and looked down at the plush green valley below.

The numerous brooks snaked in and out of the trees as they blossomed together to form a small river. The river was the vein of life for the emerald green trees.

The babbling brooks and the soft sway of trees brought a smile to his face. He could hear the distant melodies of a choir of birds. The sounds were softly soothing to his ears.

He was in a woodland paradise. He felt safe, he felt secure.

The cabin was unusually cold for this time of year. A shiver ran down her spine as she tip toed across the cool floor to the thermostat.

"65 degrees?" She gasped as her fingers tapped the small dial. The dial cracked and fell to the floor. "That's not good."

She rubbed her hands roughly across her arms together trying to produce a spark of heat. She walked over to her phone and picked it up without thinking. The silence on the phone sent a shiver down her spine. She looked over at the calendar and realized she had not paid the phone bill in over three months. She let the receiver fall to the ground as she felt the warmth of her tears.

She wiped her tears away with the back of her hand. Her body continued to shake as her loneliness added to the chill. She wrapped her arms around her body. She walked to the balcony and opened the glass doors. A soft warming breeze engulfed her. She sighed and let the soft breeze warm her chilled body.

She looked out into the valley as the sun's rays peaked over the tree tops. The soft oranges and red ignited the dark tendrils of night. The dawn was awakening.

"What am I going to do?" She asked the morning sun. "I need a phone and my nearest neighbor moved away ages ago."

She placed her hands on the railing as she looked over at her neighbors cabin. She drew in a quick breath as she noticed a soft light glowing from the once empty cabin.

"Thank you," she whispered.

~

The soft melodies of nature were rudely interrupted by a knock at the door. He sighed as he pulled himself out of bed and walked to his front door.

He put his hand on the doorknob as the knocking ceased to exist. He paused momentarily as he reflected on the possibility that he imagined the knocking. He ran his free hand over his hair and opened the door.

As the door opened he was able to see a figure walking away. "Excuse me?"

The figure stopped and turned around. She looked up at him and took in his tousled black hair and mesmerizing blue eyes. She studied his bare shoulders and masculine chest. She fought to control her impulse to draw her hands over the fine defined lines in his chest and abdomen.

"Can I help you?" He asked in a husky voice as he continued to watch her study him. He couldn't help but study how her long ebony curls contrasted with her soft ivory skin. Her blue eyes were haunting and he could sense a hidden desire that lurked within. He longed to touch her soft lips with his.

"I live in the cabin next door," She managed to reply softly as she noticed the small scar on his left side.

"That's quite a distance to walk this early in the morning."

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to wake you," She replied as he motioned for her to come in. "I saw a light on."

She walked in and scanned over the mess in front of her. Numerous boxes were scattered around the room. Clothes and sports equipment were heaped in piles. Papers and books cluttered the floor and desk.

"Please excuse the mess," He mumbled as his face flushed slightly with embarrassment. She couldn't help but smile in response.

A silence filled the room as their gazes locked. For a split second, time stood still. Memories were sparked as they continued to look into each others soul.

"Kyle," he whispered as he closed the agonizing gap between them.

"Nice to meet you Kyle," She moaned softly as she offered her hand to him.

His fingers lingered on hers as he slowly engulfed her delicate hand in his. Their hands joined in a simple gesture of friendship. The feel of his skin on hers ignited the soft burning desire within each others heart and soul.

"Ava," she managed to whisper as she hesitantly let go of his hand.

"What can I do for you?" he inquired as he softly traced his fingers over his hand, recalling the sensations that her hand left.

An illusion of lust and passion clouded their minds. She reached over and traced the scar on his side. She no longer cared that she need to make a phone call. "When?"

He gasped at her electrifying touch. He placed his hand on hers and looked deep into her blue eyes. He sensed a familiar vibe, but he could not place it. He searched her eyes and studied her face for any clue to her past.

"Kyle?" She questioned as his name echoed in her mind. She jerked her hand away as she recalled his true identity.

She took a deep breath and looked away as her eyes focused on a picture on the desk. She knew him and with this knowledge she felt a slight panic arise.

"Ava?" he gasped searching for an explanation.

"I have to go," she whispered as she felt the hot sting of tears.

"What's wrong?" he inquired as he noticed the hint of tears in her eyes. "Have I done something wrong?"

"No," She moaned. She looked into his eyes and she wanted to tell him. She wanted to tell him the truth about her past, their past.

For the past two and a half years of her life, she had chosen to live alone. To see him again, brought back the love that she felt and the betrayal she left.

She moaned in protest as he wrapped his arms around her. She cried in his arms, moaning softly and mumbling about her past love.

He cradled her lovingly in his arms. He felt his connection with her grow stronger as she continued to cry. He wanted to help her in any way. He wanted to make her feel loved again.

A soothing silence overcame the room as Ava's tears softly came to a close. She relaxed into Kyle's arms as he continued to message her back.

A small moan escaped her lips as his hand moved lower down to the small curve of her back. He tilted her chin up to look into her eyes.

A spark of electricity ran though his body as their gazes connected, the familiar vibe ignited his senses. He leaned in closer, his lips nearly grazing her brow.

She closed her eyes with a feeling of desire and in heightened anticipation of his lips upon hers. She had been yearning for his kiss, for his touch for so long. She had only dreamt of this moment.

A deep moan lingered in the base of his throat as her hands moved up his chest and encircled around his neck. Bringing her body even closer to his.

He wanted to kiss her. Every fiber in his body screamed for her touch. She had brought out an inner feeling of passion that he thought had died years ago.

He hesitated slightly, knowing that they had only met this morning, but everything about her still seemed familiar to him. Her spicy scent, her soulful eyes, her electric touch... he needed her, he wanted to embrace her and make her his for all eternity.

He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight against his body. He felt like he was dreaming. He leaned in and tenderly kissed her on her forehead.

She moaned in response as his lips traveled down and lingered above her lips.

His lips barely grazed hers when the shrill ring of the phone broke their connection. Kyle and Ava jumped apart as if they were teenagers caught in a torrid embrace. Kyle cursed as he glanced over towards the phone.

"Kyle?" She inquired her voice heavy and seductive. He brought a finger to her lips as he waited impatiently to hear the message on the answering machine.

Ava tenderly kissed his finger sparking his inner passion into an engulfing fire of desire. Kyle turned his attention back to her, forgetting about the phone call. He pulled her close and leaned into kiss her once again.

"Hello? Kyle? Where are you? You better be there! Please, tell me I just did not waste my money to talk to a stupid machine! I'm waiting!! Pick up the phone!" A voice rang out.

Kyle groaned as her voice interrupted before their lips touched. "It's my sister, Maria," he sighed. "I better take it. Do you mind?"

"Sister?" she gasped as she slowly pulled herself away from his embrace.

"Yes. She can be rather persistent, if I don't pick up, she will continue to call." Kyle explained.

Ava nodded in response as she wrapped her arms around her body trying to fill in the void he left behind.

"Please don't go," Kyle pleaded as he turned to answer the phone. "Maria, I'm here," Kyle sighed as his body ached to feel Ava in his arms again.

"Maria?" Ava whispered to herself as she turned away. Her mind raced with the new information. She heard Kyle's forced laughter as he continued to talk with his sister. "Jim and Amy got married?" Ava cried.

Kyle turned around quickly and dropped the phone. "What did you say?"

Ava stood in shock, she didn't mean to say it out loud. She looked pleadingly at Kyle, hoping he wouldn't figure it out.

"What? How?" He mumbled as he watched her start to tremble with fear.

He continued to stare at her in shock as Maria's soft cries caught his attention. He slowly picked up the phone without breaking eye contact with her. "I have to go," Kyle replied harshly and hung up the phone.

His mind raced. He felt a sense of confusion mask his burning desires. He opened his mouth to speak, when the shrill phone rang again.

"What?" Kyle answered as he hesitantly looked away. "I can't talk. I know I hung up on you earlier. Ava's here..."

Kyle groaned as Maria continued to ramble on about the family, Michael, the new neighbors, and everything else under the sun. Kyle did not care about the happenings in Roswell. All he cared about was Ava.

Ava suddenly felt alone and scared. She knew he would figure it out and that he would leave her. She wanted more then anything to forget the past. She had betrayed everyone and she only regretted leaving him.

She turned and ran to the door. She felt the hot burning sensation of her tears as she opened the door and began to run home.

Kyle turned at the sound of the door slamming shut. He looked around to see the room empty. "@#%$!"

He threw the phone across the room and started after her. He ran out of the house and immediately cut the side of his bare foot on a jagged rock.

"@#%$!" He groaned as he wobbled back into the room. He placed his hand on the cut and concentrated. A soft glow radiated from his hand as he healed the cut on his foot.

His mind raced with intrigue and desire over Ava. He had to find her. He only had a vague idea to where she went. He quickly grabbed a pair of shoes and his car keys.

Ava's lungs felt as they would burst as she ran through the woods along the old trail. She followed the trail back to her cabin and collapsed on the back porch. Her muscles ached as she gasped for air.

Kyle drove quickly to the next cabin hoping it was hers. He ran up to the door and knocked.

He felt a rush of fear over the thought of not being able to see her, to touch her again. He leaned against the door in confusion. His mind kept telling him to run far away and to never look back, but his heart kept calling him to stay and take back his destiny.

"Ava?" He called out. He tried to open the door, but it was locked. He placed his hand on the lock and concentrated. A soft eerie glow radiated from his hand as he heard the door click open.

He sighed and leaned against the door frame. He felt drained from using what little power he inherited from his healings. He opened the door and looked around.

The living room looked similar to his own. His eyes scanned the contents of the desk. He stood frozen as he recognized a small picture frame that held an old Christmas picture of Tess and himself.

He picked up the picture as images flashed before his eyes. "Oh, God." He sank to the floor as the images integrated into his mind.

He knew that he should leave and never look back. He stared at the picture and traced her blond hair with his finger turning it black. Tess and Ava were identical.

Ava slowly picked herself off the ground and walked into the cabin. She dried away her tears with the back of her hand and went into the living room.

"Kyle?" She cried as she saw him sitting on the floor with tears in his eyes.

He looked up at her with recognition. He clutched the frame in his hand as he contemplated things to tell her, but only one thing seemed relevant. He knew the truth. He knew her secret. "I loved you, Tess."

She dropped to the floor as he said her name. She expected him to yell at her. She expected him to demand answers that she did not have. She thought he would leave.

"Kyle," She whispered trying to think of a way to explain.

He looked away as a single tear fell from his eyes. He gasped as he felt her hand on his. He immediately felt the soft flow of energy radiate through his body. His desire that engulfed him earlier overfilled his body tenfold.

He had wanted her, he had always wanted her. He pulled her to him so that she was sitting in his lap.

He traced his finger along her profile pausing to touch her lips. She moaned in response and leaned in closer. His lips slowly and tenderly embraced hers.

The heat of desire and passion for the last two and a half year were ignited. Their soft innocent kiss turned into a deeper, passionate kiss.
Part 3

The delicate scent of wildflowers kissed the air as a soft breeze rolled in through the window and brushed against their bare skin.

The noon sun trickled in through the blinds showering the couple with light.

Kyle stirred and opened his eyes. He looked over at his lover's sleeping form. He traced her face with his fingers craving her smell, her touch, her love.

He suddenly felt ill and jerked his hand away. He felt feelings of regret coursing through his veins. He cursed silently for being weak and giving into his temptation, into his forbidden desires.

He moaned as he pulled himself away from her embrace. He had filled his heart with love and passion and now his mind needed the answers. He needed to get away. He paused momentarily as he pushed himself off the bed and pulled his clothes off the floor.

He dressed quickly and walked out onto the balcony for some fresh air. The soft warm breeze soothed his skin as his mind raced with regret and his heart rejoiced with love.

He sighed as he leaned against the railing and looked at the valley below. His body slightly tensed as he sensed her coming near.

"Kyle?" Tess' voice rang softly in his ears. He stood frozen unable to move, unable to speak. He wanted her, he needed her, but he also needed the truth.

Tess noticed Kyle stiffen as she called out to him. She blinked back tears as he remained still and uncaring.

She reached out towards him. She needed him to accept her, she needed him to love her. She slipped her hand up his shirt and touched the curve of his back.

His body tensed slightly as he felt her fingers linger on the curve of his back sending waves of electricity through his body.

"Tess," he moaned as he turned to her. He could feel his arousal spark as he looked deeper into her innocent blue eyes.

"Yes," she whispered as she closed the gap between them.

"Tess, no..." he groaned as she interrupted him with a kiss.

He moaned softly against her lips. He let his guard down. He let her in. He could not deny his heart, he loved her.

She moaned in response as he pulled her closer. They stood frozen in time their tongues exploring deeper, stronger.

//Flash//

"Ahh!" Tess cried as a pair of arms grabbed her and pulled her into a room.

Tess struggled in the other girls arms. She managed to push her away as she fell to the floor.

"That's no way to treat family," the girl replied harshly as she glared down at Tess.

"Ava?" Tess inquired as she looked up at the replica of herself. She didn't look like the Ava she meet a few months ago, she looked like her.

"The one and only... but you can call me 'Tess' from now on."

"But..."

"Not to quick there babe... I am going to be you. End of discussion."

"No!" Tess cried out as Ava placed a firm grip on Tess' arm pulling her roughly off the floor.

Tess' body jerked as Ava's powers engulfed her. Tess cried out in pain as Ava drained her powers.

"Why?" Tess moaned as she collapsed to the floor.

"You are to leave Vegas now and never return to Roswell." Ava ordered.

"No!"

"Bitch, you will leave or I will get rid of you like I got rid of Zan!" Ave warned as Tess looked up at her with fear in her eyes.

//FLASH//

"Kyle?" She questioned as he pulled away breaking their connection.

He looked at her with confusion. The fragments of her past flashed before him.

She tried once again to close the gap between them.

"No." Kyle whispered as he stumbled back. Her memories, her fear continued to flash before him.

Tess reached out to him, "Kyle?"

"No!" He cried out trying to send the images away. Instead he sent an energy blast through the glass doors.

Both stood in shock as shards of glass fell to the floor.

"Oh, my God." Tess moaned as she stepped away from him.
She looked at him with tears in her eyes. "You have powers?"
Part 4

A stunned silence filled the air. Then tension between them rose slightly as everything seemed to stop. The trees were still, the chirping of the birds ceased, and even the rambling of the brooks rested.

The only sound that lingered in the air were the sound of her tears. Tess continued to study him, intrigued and scared. "How?"

Kyle glanced at his hands and quickly looked away. He walked to the edge of the balcony and grabbed onto the railing.

"Kyle?" she whispered as she noticed the muscles in his back stiffen.

Kyle sighed deeply, "I wanted to get away from them. I wanted to deny the changes, the powers, the alien within."

"You ran away?" She asked softly as she reached her hand out towards him. She wanted to touch him, she wanted to console him.

Her hand remained frozen in mid air as he turned to her. "Yes," he admitted for the first time.

"Why?" she questioned as he stepped closer, her fingers grazing his chest lightly.

"Your replacement," Kyle paused as he looked deeply into her eyes. "She changed everything."

"Ava?" Tess gasped and pulled away from him. "I don't want to know."

Kyle leaned back against the railing and took a deep breath. He knew she didn't want to know. He knew that she would feel guilty and that she would blame herself.

"Please, Kyle." Tess begged. "It's in the past."

He sighed deeply. He knew he had to tell her in order to be with her, she had to know. He had to tell her the truth.

"Ava left. She betrayed us. She killed Alex." Kyle admitted as Tess looked blankly at him. She blinked as she tried to process the news.

"No." She snapped back. "No! It can't be!" She screamed as he reached out to her and she pushed him away.

"She's gone. She went to Antar," he continued to explain as the words caught in his throat. "She destroyed the group. We struggled and some how we survived."

Tess moaned and wrapped her arms around her body. "Everyone thought it was me! They hated me. You hated me."

"No," Kyle moaned. "Even when she mindwarped me, I still loved her, you. I always have, I never stopped," Kyle whispered.

She shoot him a glance of disbelief. "Mindwarped?" She gasped as she felt another surge of tears.

"Yes," Kyle replied.

"I didn't know."

"I know."

"Tess, I want you. I want this woodland paradise with you." Kyle whispered as he embraced her.

"I can't go back, I can't face them." She moaned as she trembled in his arms.

He nodded and wiped her tears away. "I had no plans to return."

"Can we start fresh?" She inquired. "A new beginning for me, for us?"

He nodded and smiled. "Hi."

"Hi," she giggled and smiled. His heart skipped a beat as her eyes twinkled. "My name's Tess."

"Kyle."

The End
