ROSWELL
"RETURN OF THE DUPES"
TEASER
FADE IN:
A beat to establish location, then:
RATH is watching LONNIE pace.
RATH
It’s not the end of the world.
LONNIE
It’s not fair. It was supposed to be me, not that dull little blonde.
RATH
It’s for the best. You’d have had to give me up.
LONNIE
I love you Rath, but if I had to choose between you and being queen…
RATH
Then it’s a good thing you didn’t have to choose.
LONNIE
I wanna go home. I’m so tired of this planet. Trapped here is not what my life was supposed to be.
RATH
What if I could get you home?
LONNIE
How? You got a Granolith stuck up your ass?
RATH
Funny. I remembered somethin’.
Rath begins looking through their belongings.
LONNIE
Your brain actually retains information?
RATH
This is it.
Rath holds up a medallion. It’s the other half of the one Max gave Liz.
LONNIE
What’s that supposed to do?
RATH
It opens a portal between this planet and home.
LONNIE
You’re just telling me this?
RATH
I forgot about it.
LONNIE
You and that brain of yours. Open the portal.
RATH
Can’t.
LONNIE
What do you mean you can’t?
RATH
This is only half of what we need. I figure since they gave this half to Zan-
LONNIE
Maxie boy must have the rest.
RATH
We could get a car and go to Roswell.
LONNIE
Now I remember why I keep you around.
They kiss.
FADE OUT.

ACT ONE
FADE IN:
Establishing shots of the Crashdown, the UFO center, and various other buildings.
A beat to establish, then:
The living room walls are covered in graffiti. There’s a damaged sofa and pieces of a broken chair.
Rath and Lonnie enter. Rath is carrying a duffel bag. Lonnie has a pizza box.
LONNIE
This place is a dump.
RATH
You won’t be here long.
Rath stands over the pieces of broken chair. He uses his powers. The chair is now in one piece.
LONNIE
You could always get a job as a furniture maker.
RATH
Suppose I could.
LONNIE
Let me see the medallion again.
Rath gets the medallion from the duffel bag. He hands it to Lonnie. He puts the bag down and sees a scorpion. He blasts it with his powers.
RATH
Damn! Forgot how much I hate this stupid desert.
LONNIE
It’s time to go.
RATH
I’m gonna miss you.
LONNIE
Soon I’ll have Max’s half of the medallion and be able to go home.
RATH
Yeah, home.
LONNIE
Don’t sound so excited. Come on, let’s put the plan into action.
Lonnie starts to walk out. Rath doesn’t move.
RATH
Lonnie, the medallion.
LONNIE
What about it?
RATH
Give it to me.
LONNIE
I thought I’d hang onto it.
RATH
You don’t want it falling into Max’s hands, do you? It’ll be safer with me.
LONNIE
Right. Here.
Rath puts it in the duffel bag.
RATH
Let’s go.
MICHAEL, MARIA, and LIZ are closing for the night. MAX is at the counter. ISABEL is sitting in a booth by herself.
MARIA
What movie are we gonna see?
MICHAEL
Somethin’ with lots of blood.
MARIA
I don’t think so spaceboy.
LIZ
I wanna see something romantic and happy.
MAX
As you wish.
ISABEL
Gag me.
Max
Did you say something Is?
ISABEL
I’m gonna head home.
LIZ
You’re welcome to join us. We could call Kyle and make it a group thing.
ISABEL
Kyle has a date and I don’t wanna be a fifth wheel.
MAX
You wouldn’t be.
ISABEL
Maybe another time. See you.
MAX
Want a ride?
Isabel shakes her head and leaves.
MAX
I’m worried about her.
MICHAEL
Isabel? She seems fine.
LIZ
She’s lonely. We all have each other and Kyle started dating.
MARIA
We could fix her up with somebody.
Max
That’s not a good idea.
LIZ
Why not? I think she could use a night of fun.
MICHAEL
If Isabel wanted a date, she could get one.
MARIA
She’ll never be ready unless we give her a push.
MICHAEL
Stay out of it Maria.
MARIA
It’s for her own good.
MICHAEL
Leave Isabel alone, I mean it. I’ll finish the kitchen, then we can go.
MAX
I’ll bring the jeep out front.
Michael and Max exit. Liz sees the disturbed look on Maria’s face.
LIZ
What’s wrong?
MARIA
Michael doesn’t want Isabel to date anyone.
LIZ
He didn’t mean it like that.
MARIA
Then how did he mean it?
LIZ
He just meant that Isabel’s had a rough time and she’ll know when she’s ready.
MARIA
You really think so?
LIZ
Michael loves you Maria.
MARIA
He does, doesn’t he? I have that boy wrapped around my finger.
They laugh and finish cleaning.
JIM VALENTI and AMY DELUCA are taking a leisurely stroll, looking at the stars.
AMY
Kyle’s been pretty quiet lately.
JIM
He’s just been getting his head together about some stuff.
AMY
You know what I think? I think he misses Tess.
A look of anger and hurt passes over Jim’s face.
Jim
You may be right.
AMY
She hasn’t called to let you know she’s all right?
JIM
I think she wanted to cut all ties.
AMY
Can’t really blame her, what with Liz and Max getting back together.
What’s Isabel doing out by herself? Isabel!
ISABEL
Hi Mrs. Deluca, Sheriff.
AMY
Call me Amy. What are you doing out here by yourself?
ISABEL
I’m just walking home.
AMY
It’s dangerous for a young girl to walk the streets by herself at night, even in Roswell. Jim and I will see you home, right Jim?
JIM
Of course.
ISABEL
That’s really not necessary. I’ve taken self-defense classes and I have my cell phone. I’ll be fine.
AMY
Are you sure?
ISABEL
Yeah. I need some time alone to think about things.
JIM
All right. You be careful.
ISABEL
I will. Bye.
They walk in opposite directions. Jim and Amy turn a corner. The camera stays with Isabel.
Isabel gets a creepy feeling. She stops walking.
ISABEL
Is anyone there? Hello?
She checks around but doesn’t see anything.
ISABEL
Just your imagination Isabel. Have to stop being so paranoid.
She continues walking. She’s jumpy, checking every shadow.
ISABEL
This is ridiculous. There’s no one there. Kivar has the Granolith so the Skins aren’t after us anymore. No one’s after us anymore.
Suddenly, one of the shadows moves toward Isabel. It grabs her from behind. She struggles but is rendered unconscious. Her body is pulled into the shadows.
KYLE is sitting at a table with CATHY, a busty redhead on the cheerleading squad. Kyle’s eyes are glazing over as he tries to pay attention to her.
CATHY
…then I said I liked the cheerleading uniforms the way they are and they didn’t need to be sexier. But Trina said we weren’t holding the crowd’s attention. Then Toni said didn’t she mean Matt’s attention, because everyone knows he was kissing Pam at the party the other night. That’s when they started fighting and were both suspended.
KYLE
And what happened in the great uniform debate?
CATHY
Well, we voted on whether to raise money for new uniforms or for a group trip. We decided we’d rather go to a concert in L.A. Kyle, are you listening to me?
KYLE
Heard everything you said, concert in L.A.
CATHY
What’s wrong?
KYLE
Nothing. Did you want anything else before I ask for the check?
CATHY
If you didn’t wanna talk to me, why did you ask me out?
KYLE
I like you Cathy, I’m just a little distracted.
CATHY
I understand. This is your first date since the breakup.
KYLE
Breakup?
CATHY
Yeah, with Tess. Everyone knows there was something going on with you two. Then she got with Max Evans, who he dumped her for Liz Parker. That’s when Tess left town. Now you’re heartbroken and untrusting of the opposite sex.
KYLE
That’s what everyone’s saying?
CATHY
Uh huh. I think it’s great that you can still be friends with Max after he stole your girl just to dump her. And it’s all right that you’re still hurting.
KYLE
Think it’s time for me to take you home.
CATHY
Kyle, I want you to know that I’m here for you. If you need to get your feet wet in the dating pool again, I’m available. I’ll do my best not to make you fall for me.
KYLE
Thanks Cathy.
Kyle escorts her out.
Michael stops his motorcycle. Maria’s sitting behind him. They get off. He walks her to the door.
MICHAEL
You’ve been kinda quiet tonight.
MARIA
Have I?
MICHAEL
I’m not usually one to look a gift horse in the mouth. But since you normally have such a big mouth, I’m concerned.
MARIA
Thanks a lot.
MICHAEL
Seriously Maria, what’s wrong?
MARIA
It’s stupid.
MICHAEL
Generally is with you.
MARIA
If that’s the way you’re gonna be, good night.
MICHAEL
I’m sorry, all right? Tell me.
MARIA
Tonight when I brought up getting Isabel a date, you were against it.
MICHAEL
You’re mad because I disagreed with you?
MARIA
Why don’t you want Isabel to date?
MICHAEL
Doesn’t matter to me if she dates.
MARIA
Really?
MICHAEL
What does Isabel have to do with anything?
MARIA
Why don’t you want me and Liz to set her up?
MICHAEL
She’s not ready yet.
MARIA
And that’s all it is?
MICHAEL
Are you jealous?
MARIA
You’re so against it, and Isabel’s the one you’re destined to be with.
MICHAEL
I’m in love with you Maria. You’re the one I wanna be with.
MARIA
You sure?
MICHAEL
I’m sure. Come here.
Michael pulls Maria into his arms. They kiss.
Max and Liz are lying together on a lounge chair. They’re kissing. Liz pulls away.
LIZ
We need to stop.
MAX
Now?
LIZ
It’s getting a little too intense.
MAX
Okay. I should go.
LIZ
Are you mad?
MAX
You’re not ready yet, I understand. I love you Liz. I’ll wait as long as it takes.
LIZ
I love you too Max.
They kiss. Max climbs down the ladder on the side of the building. Liz goes through her window.
Liz begins getting ready for bed. She opens her jewelry box. She takes off her diamond stud earrings.
She lifts the false bottom of the jewelry box. She drops the earrings on top of the medallion Max gave her. She closes the jewelry box and walks away.
Isabel’s unconscious. She’s tied to the chair in the living room. She wakes up. She tries to use her powers to free herself.
ISABEL
Why isn’t this working?
I’ve been able to do this since I was ten. Who kidnapped me?
Rath enters.
RATH
Since I’m an alien, I think you should use the word abducted.
ISABEL
Please tell me you’re Michael playing a beyond-WORDS cruel joke.
RATH
Nope, try again.
ISABEL
Rath?
RATH
Got it in two. Take a bow.
ISABEL
What do you want?
RATH
The pleasure of your company.
ISABEL
Lonnie ditch you?
RATH
She’s takin’ care of some business. That’s why you gotta keep me company.
ISABEL
You’ll never get away with this.
RATH
Think we will.
ISABEL
My friends and family will know she’s not me.
RATH
Doubt it.
ISABEL
Max and Michael will know. They’re gonna kick you butt from here to New York.
RATH
Better get comfortable. You’ll be here a while.
ISABEL
How long is a while?
RATH
Until Lonnie gets what we want.
ISABEL
What do you want?
RATH
None of your business. You hungry? I got some pizza.
Rath shrugs at Isabel’s look of hatred. He opens the box and starts eating.
The room is trashed. Lonnie’s standing in the middle of it. She’s dressed as herself.
LONNIE
He has to have it. He and Zan were programmed to hang onto it.
She tosses things around, not caring about the mess.
LONNIE
Come on Maxie boy, what did you do with it?
Max is walking to his room. He hears a loud crash.
MAX
Isabel? Is that you?
Max puts his hand on the DOORKNOB and opens the door.
Max sees Lonnie standing in the middle of his clean room. She’s wearing Isabel-style clothing and hair.
MAX
You all right? I thought I heard something.
LONNIE
I’m good.
MAX
What are you doing in here?
LONNIE
I wanted to borrow a CD.
MAX
We don’t listen to the same kind of music.
LONNIE
I was in the mood for somethin’ different. Let me get out of your way.
MAX
Wait a minute.
LONNIE
What?
MAX
Aren’t you forgetting something?
LONNIE
Don’t think so.
MAX
The CD you wanted?
LONNIE
Right. I’m not in the mood for music after all. Goodnight Max.
MAX
Night Isabel.
Lonnie smiles and closes the door.
FADE OUT.
END ACT ONE
ACT TWO
FADE IN:
DIANE EVANS serves Max and Lonnie the breakfast she made.
DIANE
I want your honest opinion this time. No trying to spare my feelings.
MAX
Of course Mom.
LONNIE
Whatever you say.
They begin eating. Lonnie starts to gag, but covers it up at a warning look from Max.
DIANE
Well?
MAX
I think it needs some Tabasco.
LONNIE
A lot of Tabasco.
DIANE
I’ll get it.
Diane goes to the refrigerator.
LONNIE
I’m surprised she hasn’t poisoned you by now.
MAX
Isabel! You’ll hurt her feelings.
LONNIE
If I do, does that mean I don’t have to eat anymore of this crap?
MAX
What’s wrong with you? Nevermind, here comes Mom.
DIANE
Here you go.
LONNIE
You know, I’m not really hungry this morning. Max is still a growing boy, he can have mine.
Lonnie puts her food on Max’s plate. Max gives Diane a strained smile.
DIANE
What are you up to today?
MAX
I’m gonna go see Liz.
LONNIE
There’s a surprise.
DIANE
Do you have a problem with Liz Isabel?
LONNIE
Nothin’ a personality implant couldn’t cure. I’m kidding! Jeez, learn to take a joke.
MAX
It wasn’t funny.
LONNIE
Someone needs to lighten up.
DIANE
What about you Isabel, what are you doing today?
LONNIE
I have some stuff to do in my room.
DIANE
I’m worried about you. You don’t date anymore, or bring any friends by the house.
LONNIE
The whole dating scene doesn’t have much to offer.
DIANE
I know Alex dying was hard on you, but you can’t stop living.
LONNIE
I’ll think about it. I’m going to my room.
MAX
I’ll be at the Crashdown.
Lonnie’s at the window watching Diane leave.
LONNIE
Finally. Now I can find that stupid medallion and claim my life. Maybe Max gave it to big sister to look after.
Lonnie starts to search Isabel’s room.
LONNIE
Now if I were her, where would I hide somethin’ important?
Her eyes light on Isabel’s vanity table. Lonnie checks it over. Where the wood is thickest, she uses her powers to manipulate the molecules. She puts her hand through the wood and pulls out a small diary.
LONNIE
Jackpot.
Well, what do you know.
Max and Liz are on the bed making out. Liz pushes Max away.
LIZ
We have to stop.
MAX
Why?
LIZ
I have to get ready for work. I’ll see you down there.
MAX
Sure. Liz, is anything wrong?
LIZ
Why do you ask?
MAX
Just wondered. You’d tell me if there were, right?
LIZ
Of course. I really have to get ready for work.
MAX
Okay. See you downstairs.
Max leaves. Liz looks after him, troubled.
Kyle walks in. He sits at the counter. Maria comes over.
MARIA
Hey Kyle, what can I get you?
KYLE
A barf bag. I just saw your mom at my house wearing one of my dad’s shirts.
MARIA
That’s my mother you’re talking about. She’s not barf bag worthy.
KYLE
I didn’t mean it like that. Your mother’s a total babe. I can’t believe I just said that.
MARIA
Neither can I. Now I need a barf bag.
KYLE
Our parents have been spending a lot of time together.
MARIA
Do you think that means…
KYLE
Means what?
MARIA
That you and I could one day be related.
KYLE
They wouldn’t do that to us.
MARIA
We could actually be siblings, sharing the same house.
KYLE
They haven’t been dating that long. They’re not ready to get married.
MARIA
You’re right, we’re worried about nothing.
KYLE
On the other hand, they are old. They don’t have a lot of time to waste, so they might…
MARIA
Oh God.
KYLE
They could run off to Vegas together and get married.
MARIA
My mother would actually see that as romantic.
KYLE
It’s better than the alternative.
MARIA
What’s that?
KYLE
They could make us dress up and be in the wedding.
MARIA
You know Kyle, I don’t like you right now. I was in a good mood before you got here.
KYLE
We aim to please.
Michael looks up from the grill when Max comes in.
MICHAEL
Hey man.
MAX
Hey Michael.
MICHAEL
You don’t look like you were upstairs gettin’ some alien lovin’.
MAX
Liz isn’t ready.
MICHAEL
Still?
MAX
I think she’s still mad about Tess. She says she’s not, but-
MICHAEL
You don’t believe her.
MAX
No.
MICHAEL
If anyone’s to blame for Tess, it’s Liz.
MAX
It’s not Liz’s fault.
MICHAEL
I don’t mean all the rest. I meant the fact that you were even with Tess. Liz is the one who broke up with you and pushed you at Tess.
MAX
You know why she did that.
MICHAEL
Yeah, but she still did it. You weren’t faithful because she didn’t want you to be. Cut yourself some slack.
MAX
Easy to say. I feel like I should’ve fought harder to hold on when she pushed me away.
MICHAEL
You held out as long as you could, but Liz didn’t give an inch. And Tess was right there, all blonde and curvy. How could you resist?
MAX
Better not let Maria hear you talking like that.
MICHAEL
I’m not afraid of her.
MAX
Admit it, you’re whipped.
MICHAEL
Only one in this room that’s whipped is you.
MAX
As I recall, you watched a romantic comedy for her last night.
MICHAEL
And you were sitting in my row.
Lonnie enters. She sits next to Kyle at the counter.
KYLE
Hey Isabel.
LONNIE
Kyle. You’re looking good today, for a human. You been workin’ out?
KYLE
A little.
LONNIE
Well, you look good.
KYLE
Thanks, I guess.
LONNIE
You act like you’ve never gotten a compliment.
KYLE
Not from you, not unless you want something.
LONNIE
I could think of all sorts of things you could give me.
Maria comes over.
MARIA
You want anything Isabel?
LONNIE
No thanks. Michael around?
MARIA
He’s in back. Want me to get him?
LONNIE
It’s private, I’ll go back there.
Maria goes to wait on a customer.
KYLE
Are you okay Isabel? You seem different.
LONNIE
Different how?
KYLE
I don’t know, just not yourself. Are you coming down with something?
LONNIE
I’m fine Kyle, thanks for asking. But maybe we can play doctor later.
KYLE
What!
LONNIE
Does no one in this town have a sense of humor?
Lonnie goes in back. Maria comes back to the counter.
MARIA
You in there Kyle?
KYLE
Did Isabel seem different to you?
MARIA
Not really.
KYLE
She’s not acting like herself.
MARIA
I didn’t notice. Maybe you’re imagining things.
KYLE
I don’t think so.
Michael and Max look up as Lonnie enters.
LONNIE
Hey you two.
MAX
Thought you had plans today.
LONNIE
Finished early. Aren’t you gonna say hello Michael?
MICHAEL
Hey. How are you?
LONNIE
I’m good.
Max notices where Lonnie’s looking. Liz comes downstairs dressed for work.
LIZ
You guys can’t be in here when my dad comes down. He said it’s a health code violation.
MAX
We’ll go out front.
LONNIE
Can I just talk to Michael alone for a minute? It’s really important.
LIZ
Sure. Just hurry.
Max and Liz go in front.
MICHAEL
What’s up?
LONNIE
Can I come by tonight?
MICHAEL
Somethin’ wrong?
LONNIE
We haven’t talked in a while.
MICHAEL
I’m sorry about that. With Maria and everything…
LONNIE
It’s okay Michael, I understand. I just really feel like talking to you tonight.
MICHAEL
I kinda had plans with Maria.
LONNIE
Can’t you break ‘em?
MICHAEL
She’s looking forward to it.
LONNIE
If you don’t have time for your oldest friend, who’s always been there for you…
MICHAEL
You win Isabel. Seven good for you?
LONNIE
I’ll be there.
Lonnie kisses Michael on the cheek close to his lips. She leaves through the back.
Rath is feeding Isabel a slice of pizza. She has a bit of sauce on her cheek. Rath licks it off.
ISABEL
Keep your tongue to yourself!
RATH
Bet I could make you like my tongue, make you scream for more.
ISABEL
Not in this lifetime.
RATH
You know you want it.
ISABEL
You know you’re delusional.
RATH
There’s the princess I know and love.
ISABEL
Rath?
RATH
What?
ISABEL
I need to go to the bathroom.
RATH
So go.
ISABEL
On myself? That’s disgusting. Can’t you untie me so I can use the bathroom? I promise to be good.
RATH
You promise not to escape?
ISABEL
I promise not to try at this particular moment in time. Please?
RATH
All right.
Rath releases Isabel. She rubs her wrists to get feeling back in them. Isabel walks meekly to the bathroom. Suddenly, Isabel blasts Rath with her powers. He goes flying. Isabel runs. She’s almost to the front door when Rath tackles her. They struggle.
RATH
What happened to not tryin’ to escape at this moment in time?
ISABEL
The moment passed.
RATH
You’re not gettin’ away that easy.
ISABEL
Let go of me!
Rath uses his powers to bind her to a wall.
ISABEL
I hate you.
RATH
You just wish you did. You’re so much like Lonnie.
ISABEL
I’m nothing like her.
RATH
I forgive you for tryin’ to get away. Rollin’ around with you was fun.
ISABEL
That turned you on?
RATH
Turned you on too.
ISABEL
In your dreams.
RATH
I get the feelin’ you’ll be in my dreams a lot from now on.
Isabel glares at him.
Liz is going through her closet. Maria enters.
MARIA
Getting ready for a date with Max?
LIZ
We’re gonna hang out downstairs. What are you doing here? Thought you and Michael had plans.
MARIA
We did, but he canceled. Isabel needed to talk to him.
LIZ
Oh. Can I talk to you Maria?
MARIA
What’s up?
LIZ
You know I love Max, right?
MARIA
The whole world knows you love Max. What’s the problem?
LIZ
Lately, all he thinks about is sex.
MARIA
Is he pressuring you? Cause I’ll set him straight-
LIZ
He’s not pushing. In fact, he’s being really patient.
MARIA
Then what’s the problem?
LIZ
I wanna be with him but I’m scared.
MARIA
Of what?
LIZ
What if I get pregnant?
MARIA
That’s why you use protection.
LIZ
But it doesn’t always work. I don’t wanna get pregnant and have my baby die because of Earth’s environment. But I feel like my fear is denying me and Max what we both want.
MARIA
Talk to Max about it. This is something you guys need to figure out together.
LIZ
You’re right. Thanks.
MARIA
What are best friends for? I’ll see you later, I’m gonna go see Michael.
LIZ
You just said he was spending time with Isabel.
MARIA
He is. I’m just gonna drop by for a minute.
LIZ
Are you checking up on them?
MARIA
No, maybe.
LIZ
Michael loves you, you can trust him.
MARIA
I do trust him, I just need to be sure.
LIZ
If you need to be sure, then you don’t trust him.
MARIA
I can’t deal with logic right now. See you later.
Maria leaves.
Michael gets out of the shower. He walks into his bedroom wrapped in a towel. He glances at his clock as he pulls out clothes to wear.
Suddenly, alien powers throw Michael onto the bed so that he’s lying on his back. The same powers secure his wrists to the headboard.
Michael looks up to see his captor. He spots Lonnie. She’s staring at him like a starving person would a steak.
FADE OUT.
END ACT TWO
ACT THREE
FADE IN:
Michael looks at Lonnie angrily.
MICHAEL
Very funny Isabel, now let me go.
LONNIE
Aren’t you comfortable? You look really…comfortable.
MICHAEL
I’m serious Isabel, joke’s over.
LONNIE
Who said I’m joking?
MICHAEL
If this isn’t a joke, what is it?
LONNIE
I came over to talk. One look at you and suddenly talking is the last thing on my mind.
Michael watches wide-eyed as Lonnie starts to undress.
MICHAEL
Isabel?
LONNIE
Shh. Just lie back and enjoy it.
Kyle’s searching his room.
KYLE
Math book, math book. Where is it?
He looks under his bed and pulls out his jersey that Tess always wore. He gets flashes of her in it.
He smiles for a moment. He remembers about Alex. He throws the jersey in the trashcan.
KYLE
Stupid bitch.
Kyle lays on his bed. He tosses a baseball up in the air. He remembers Isabel’s behavior at the Crashdown.
He picks up his phone. He calls the Evans house.
DIANE (v.o.)
Hello?
KYLE
Mrs. Evans, it’s Kyle Valenti. Is Isabel home?
DIANE (v.o.)
No, she went out a while ago.
KYLE
Did she say where she was going?
DIANE (v.o.)
No she didn’t. Is something wrong?
KYLE
Everything’s fine, I just needed to talk to her.
DIANE (v.o.)
Max is at the Crashdown with Liz. He might know where she is.
KYLE
Thanks, I’ll try there. Bye.
Kyle hangs up. He grabs his jacket and leaves.
Isabel sees Rath staring at her breasts. He grins when she glares at him.
ISABEL
Don’t you have something to do?
RATH
My job is to watch you. That’s what I’m doin’.
ISABEL
You’re not supposed to be watching me like that. I thought you loved Lonnie.
RATH
I do. But you have a set of curves I’m intimately acquainted with.
ISABEL
You’re not acquainted with mine.
RATH
Lonnie, you, different sides of the Vilandra coin. It wouldn’t even be cheating.
ISABEL
I’m nothing like Vilandra.
RATH
Sure you are. Everything I loved about her is part of you.
ISABEL
Do you remember what she did?
RATH
You mean her and Kivar? I remember.
ISABEL
Doesn’t that bother you? Aren’t you worried it might happen again?
RATH
Naw. My former self was all into being Zan’s second. Didn’t spend enough time telling Vilandra how he felt. That’s what left her vulnerable to Kivar.
ISABEL
So you forgave her?
RATH
I love Lonnie, nothin’ to forgive. Besides, I won’t make the same mistakes this life, so Lonnie won’t betray me.
Lonnie’s down to her underwear. She starts to take it off but stops.
LONNIE
Think I’ll keep it on for now. You can pull it off with your teeth later.
MICHAEL
This has gone far enough.
LONNIE
But baby, we just got started.
Lonnie crawls onto the bed next to Michael. She bites his lower lip.
LONNIE
Tell me what you like.
MICHAEL
I’d like you to get off me.
LONNIE
No preferences, huh? Good, that means I can be inventive.
MICHAEL
I love Maria, and this game has gone too far Isabel.
LONNIE
This is no game, I’ll prove it to you.
Lonnie begins kissing her way down Michael’s chest. Michael tries to get his hands loose but they won’t budge.
MICHAEL
Damn it Isabel, stop playing.
LONNIE
Relax, we don’t have to tell anyone about this. We’ll call it a stolen moment, all right?
MICHAEL
I mean it, let me go.
LONNIE
No.
Lonnie continues her journey down Michael’s body. There’s a knock on the door.
MARIA (o.s.)
Michael, it’s Maria. Open up.
LONNIE
Damn that girl’s got lousy timing.
MARIA (o.s.)
I know you’re in there. Your bike is outside.
LONNIE
Let’s be really quiet so she’ll go away.
MARIA (o.s.)
Michael!
MICHAEL
Maria won’t go away, she’s like a fungus. She also has no problem breaking in. Get up before she catches us like this.
LONNIE
Fine.
Lonnie rolls off Michael. She waves her hand, releasing his wrists. Michael jumps up. He begins dressing.
MARIA (o.s.)
You have one minute, then I’m coming in.
LONNIE
How do you stand that?
MICHAEL
Get dressed.
Lonnie stretches out provocatively.
LONNIE
I’ll wait for you to get back, then we can discuss it.
Michael steps toward her. The knocking on the door starts again. With one last look at Lonnie, Michael walks into
and answers the door.
MARIA
What too you so long?
MICHAEL
Isabel and I were in the middle of somethin’.
MARIA
What’s that?
MICHAEL
Why are you here?
MARIA
Nice attitude. Aren’t you gonna let me in?
MICHAEL
No.
Maria gives him a look and pushes past him.
MARIA
Where’s Isabel?
MICHAEL
She’s, ah…
Lonnie enters fully dressed.
LONNIE
Right here. Things with Michael got so intense, I had to take a minute to pull myself together.
MARIA
That mean you guys are done?
LONNIE
For now. I’m sorry for stealing Michael from you for the night, but I needed him desperately.
MARIA
What are friends for, right Michael?
MICHAEL
Yeah, sure.
LONNIE
Well I’ll leave you two crazy kids alone.
MICHAEL
Isabel, we’ll finish our talk later.
LONNIE
You promise?
Oh, before I go. Michael, do you know what Max did with his medallion?
MICHAEL
Medallion?
LONNIE
The one with the alien symbol and looks like it’s broken in half?
MICHAEL
What do you want it for?
LONNIE
I found it in the alien book, and wanna research it.
MARIA
Max gave it to Liz.
LONNIE
Really?
MARIA
Yeah, a symbol of his love when he thought you guys were gonna leave.
LONNIE
How sweet. Well, I’ll have to go see Liz. Thanks for everything Michael. I’m really looking forward to our next talk.
Lonnie leaves. Michael stares after her.
There are only a few CUSTOMERS. Liz and Max are in a booth eating hamburgers. Liz watches Max dip a jalapeno pepper in syrup before eating it.
LIZ
How can you eat that?
MAX
It’s good.
LIZ
I’ve never seen you eat anything like that.
MAX
Tess showed me…
I’m sorry.
LIZ
Why should you be sorry?
MAX
I shouldn’t have brought up Tess.
LIZ
Why shouldn’t you bring her up?
MAX
Liz-
LIZ
I mean, you guys were together. It’s only natural that you shared things with her.
MAX
Maybe we should talk about this.
LIZ
There’s nothing to talk about. Tess is gone, the end.
Kyle comes in. He notices the tension.
KYLE
Am I interrupting?
MAX/LIZ
Yes./No.
KYLE
Wanna try that again?
LIZ
What is it Kyle?
KYLE
Have you seen Isabel?
MAX
What’s wrong?
KYLE
It’s just, she’s been bothering me all day. Something about her earlier seemed off but I can’t figure out what it is.
LIZ
Off how?
KYLE
I don’t know, just off.
MAX
Isabel’s at Michael’s. She wanted to talk to him.
KYLE
I’m going over there. Catch you later.
Michael and Maria enter.
KYLE
Is Isabel with you?
MARIA
Hello to you too. Need to work on the manners Valenti.
MICHAEL
What’s wrong?
KYLE
I need to make sure Isabel’s all right. Where is she?
MARIA
We thought she’d be here.
MAX
Why’s that?
MARIA
Thought she’d wanna talk to you and Liz about that medallion.
LIZ
What medallion?
MARIA
The one Max gave you. You know, the alien one.
MAX
What did she want with it?
MICHAEL
Said she found somethin’ in the alien book. Wanted to do some research.
MAX
That’s odd. Since Alex died, she’s wanted nothing to do with the book.
LIZ
So what changed?
KYLE
I knew it! I knew there was some alien thing wrong with Isabel.
MAX
We don’t know that there’s anything wrong.
MICHAEL
She’s not acting like herself.
MAX
What do you mean?
MICHAEL
Just…when she came over earlier, she wasn’t acting like herself.
MAX
You wanna elaborate?
MICHAEL
No.
MARIA
We need to find Isabel, make sure she’s okay.
KYLE
Yeah, we need to make sure whatever alien thing this is doesn’t hurt her.
MICHAEL
You don’t know it’s an alien thing.
KYLE
Of course it is. And if it’s not, better to assume the worst and prepare for it.
MAX
Liz, go get the medallion. When you come back, we’ll split up and look for Isabel.
Liz goes upstairs.
Liz opens the door. She sees Lonnie standing in the middle of her trashed room.
LIZ
Isabel, what are you doing?
Lonnie raises her hand and closes the door.
LONNIE
Where’s the medallion Max gave you?
LIZ
Isabel, what happened to you?
LONNIE
Nothin’ happened. Where’s the freakin’ medallion?
LIZ
Max is right downstairs. I’m gonna go get him. He can help you, heal whatever’s wrong.
LONNIE
The only thing wrong with me is that I don’t have that medallion. Tell me where it is.
LIZ
I’ll be right back with Max.
LONNIE
You’re not goin’ anywhere.
Lonnie lifts her hand. Her powers throw Liz away from the door and against a wall. It knocks over Liz’s jewelry case. The contents spill out.
Lonnie stalks toward Liz.
LONNIE
Tell me where it is.
LIZ
Something’s wrong with you. Max can help.
LONNIE
Only one that can help me right now is you. Where’s the medallion? I won’t ask again.
LIZ
Let me help you.
LONNIE
Only one that needs help is you.
Lonnie lifts her hand to Liz. Lonnie spies the medallion amidst the spilled jewelry. She picks it up.
LONNIE
Come to mama.
The door crashes open. Lonnie runs toward the window. Michael and Max use their powers to stop her from getting away. Kyle and Maria check on Liz.
MAX
Liz, are you okay?
LIZ
I’m fine. There’s something wrong with Isabel.
LONNIE
There’s nothin’ wrong with me that gettin’ outta here won’t cure.
MARIA
Maybe you should connect with her Max, see what’s wrong.
MAX
Hold her Michael.
LONNIE
Stop it. Let go of me.
Max makes the connection. He sees images of New York, Rath and Lonnie together, and Lonnie taking Isabel’s place. Max breaks the connection and steps back.
MICHAEL
What did you see?
MAX
She’s not Isabel. It’s Lonnie.
FADE OUT.
END ACT THREE
ACT FOUR
FADE IN:
Lonnie’s tied to a chair with rope. Max and Michael’s powers also bind her. Her hair is short again but she’s still wearing Isabel’s clothes.
