Max and the others left
overhears
Tess' plans to kill Liz.
~~~~~~~~~~Part
1~~~~~~~~~~~
Max
looked over at Isabel, Michael and Tess, and gave them a reassuring
smile.
This was it. They were finally going home. Back to Antar, where they
belonged.
At least, that's where everyone believed they belonged. Except
Max.
Max wasn't so sure he belonged on Antar- with Tess. But he got her
pregnant;
It was his son she was carrying. Even if it wasn't were he
belonged,
it was his duty to take care of his son. Phillip. He had the name
all
picked out. After his father. The man who was his father. Max shook his
head,
confused. This wasn't right. But he had to do it. He glanced up at the
countdown
on the wall. They had a minute or two before they had to enter the
Granolith.
Max crossed the chamber and walked over to Tess. She smiled
lightly
at him, and placed her hand on her stomach. That's my son in there,
Max
thought. The reason we're going to Antar in the first place.
The
baby was suffocating, because it couldn't survive in the earth's
atmosphere.
Thank god Alex deciphered the book, Max thought. The fact that
the
issue of Alex's death still hadn't been solved yet still bugged him.
They
were leaving
vulnerable
to attack from whoever had killed Alex. The thought of Liz being
killed
because he'd left her here unprotected almost brought Max to his
knees.
He looked back up at the clock.
"We'd
better get in." He said, helping Tess up into the Granolith.
Isabel
came next, her eyes a mess of tears. She hadn't wanted to go either.
But
with Alex gone, Shed really had nothing to stay in Roswell for besides
him,
and he was leaving. Max nodded in encouragement to her and helped her
in.
Michael seemed to be hesitating. He was pacing the chamber.
"Michael?"
Max said, questionably.
"I
can't do it, Maxwell. I'm staying." Michael said.
Max
was tempted to say that he'd stay with him. But he knew that was
impossible.
He had to save his son. He had to save his planet. But he
couldn't
do it without Michael.
"Michael,
I need you." Max said, walking over to his old friend.
"I
can't leave Maria here. Not after what happened to Alex." Michael said.
Max
had thought about the same thing. About Liz. How could he leave her here
when
Alex's murderer was still out there somewhere. Once more, Max felt
weak.
It was hard enough leaving Liz behind as it was. Why did Michael have
to
add more salt to the wound? Was he trying to get him to stay? That is out
of
the question, Max told himself. But deep down he knew he wanted to stay
and
live in Liz's arms for the rest of his life.
"Please
Michael. I.....We'll figure out a way for you to come back. I
promise.
I just need you there when we get there. I won't be able to do this
without
you." Max said.
Behind
them, the countdown began beeping off in seconds. Michael looked
around,
down at his hands, then back at Max with tears in his eyes. Max knew
exactly
what he was feeling, because he felt the same way too. His eyes
tea-red
up as he looked at Michael, waiting for him to walk toward him or
out
of the chamber and back to Roswell. Where both their hearts were. Behind
him,
Max could barely hear Tess and Isabel shouting at them to get in.
"Alright,
let's go." Michael said, finally.
Relief
temporarily filled Max as Michael climbed into the Granolith and was
embraced
by Isabel and Tess. He was close
behind him. The girls embraced
him,
and they were talking. But all Max could hear was Liz. Liz screaming
his
name. And a small pounding noise. He thought he heard Maria and Kyle's
voice
too. Max quickly shook his head. Your imagining things. Now is not the
time
for a guilt trip. You're leaving, Evans, he told himself firmly. As the
countdown
got to the last few seconds the entire pod chamber began to shake,
and
then it exploded into silver puddles. Everywhere. There was silver
covering
everything. It was beautiful. Liz would love it, he thought as the
Granolith
melded itself into a ship. A few seconds later it took off. And
the
last thing Max heard was Liz yelling ‘Max, It was Tess.'
~~~~
Liz
stood outside the podchamber with Maria and Kyle, screaming at the top
of
her lungs and pounding on the door.
"Max!"
Liz yelled. "Come on, somebody must hear me!" She said under her
breath.
Tess
probably does and isn't telling them, Liz thought. That's something
that
murderous bitch would do.
"Max!"
Maria yelled next to her. "Michael!"
"Isabel!
Evans!" Kyle yelled.
Liz
threw her hand against the door, frustrated. They had to get in there.
They
had to tell Max. Tess had killed Alex. She had mind-warped him into
going
to Las Cruces and deciphering the book. And when he confronted her
about
it, she'd killed him. And to make matters worse she had brought Kyle
into
it by having him lug the body to her car and mind-warping him into
thinking
it was luggage. Liz would not let the love of her life leave the
planet
with that back-stabbing gerbil. After all she had done for her. She'd
practically
undressed Max and threw him on Tess. She'd given up a life of
happiness,
a wedding day. She'd handed Max on a silver plate to Tess, to
save
the world. To save that ungrateful bitch. Liz threw her hands against
the
door, screaming, and the whole ground began to shake.
"Oh
my god!" Liz yelled, backing away from the chamber door. "What did I
do?"
"I
think it's them, not you." Kyle said, pulling Maria away from the door.
The
three of them retreated down the hill and watched as the chamber
exploded
into puddles of silver. It would have been gorgeous, if it wasn't
related
to the aliens leaving. Liz watched in horror as a ship catapulted
out
of the silver puddles and into space.
"Max,
It was Tess!" Liz yelled, dropping to her knees.
Maria
was speechless next to her. Kyle pulled Liz up lightly and held her
next
to him as she sobbed. Her life was . . . over.
"Shh.
It's alright, Liz." He said. Liz looked up at him, and he wiped away
her
tears.
"He's
Max. He'll find out." Kyle added, pulling Maria close to him on the
other
side.

2~~~~~~~~~~~
~*~
4 months later ~*~
There
it was again. That scratchy noise. It sounded like someone trying to
be
like James Bond, sneaking around in the shadows. Liz looked down on the
alley
from her balcony. Nothing there. She returned to her diary. So then it
came
around and grabbed me by the neck, and almost suffocated me. Thank god
for
Kyle.... The damned noise came again, interrupting her thoughts. Liz
threw
her pen down in frustration and looked over the wall again. She could
have
sworn she had heard someone down there. Not even 6 months ago, she
would
have been wishfully thinking it was Max. But now Max was gone.
Returned
to Antar. And what was down there was more than likely an Antorp.
They
had surfaced a few weeks after Max had left and had seemed to be after
her,
and her alone. In desperation she tried some of the exercises Max had
told
her about using her powers, and had accessed the greatest weapon she
had
against those beasts. She barely had any spare time anymore since every
waking
hour was spent either fighting the Antorps, or preparing to fight the
Antorps.
When
they realized they couldn't hurt Liz, they'd started to go after her
parents.
Finally they'd ended up going after Kyle and Maria. Liz then taught
Kyle
how to use his powers. But Maria had freaked out. She'd lost it. She
had
moved out of her house and was now living in isolation. The noise came
once
more. She blew a strand of hair out of her face and looked down again.
Liz
had her hands full, fighting these things. She sighed and closed her
eyes.
And
in that split second, the Antorp jumped onto the balcony and tried to
strangle
her. Oh my god, Liz's instinct's
screamed. But she knew better. It
was
time to fight. She opened her eyes quickly and twisted the things arm so
she
could get loose. It came right back at her, and was trying to get a hand
on
her so it could kill her. The Antorps killed by getting inside the body
with
their powers and bursting every blood vessel in the body. Liz has seen
it
in action when someone had tried to save her in a dark alley when she was
being
attacked.
And
Liz did not want to look like that guy did. She threw her hands onto the
Antorp's
chest and pushed. It barely moved, but it was startled enough to
give
Liz enough time to send her powers into the thing's chest.
It exploded
into
nothing right before her eyes. After
a few close situations with the
Antorps,
Liz had discovered that, like the skins, they had a button to hit.
Except
this button was buried deep inside their chest, and had to be
activated
with her powers.
Liz
shivered and went inside. She hated having to fight those things. She
changed
into her pajama's and went to bed. She had a long day tomorrow.
The
next day, Liz woke up early and got into her jeep. Since the aliens blew
up
Bob, everyone, even their parents, believed they'd all died in an
accident.
Only she, Maria, Kyle, and Valenti knew otherwise. So her parents
thought
her grief was mourning. In an effort to cheer her up, they'd agreed
to
get her what she'd been begging them for years for- a car. When the time
came
to chose it, they went to every car dealership in Roswell. And in the
back
lot of a dinky dealership, she'd found it. It was Bob. Black, topless,
no
doors. She'd gotten it immediately. Her parents didn't even bother to
protest.
They knew better. Liz put the key in the ignitor and turned on the
car.
She reached over and flicked on the cd player. Gomez blasted in her
ear,
and she turned it down a little before backing out and heading towards
Michael's
apartment and Maria.
Maria
rubbed her arms, shivering. It was freezing in the apartment again.
A
sudden
change in temperature means a ghost, Maria thought to herself. Her
eyes
filled with tears. Michael was dead then. For months she had prayed to
every
god of every religion that he would come back to her. That was until
those
. . . those things had attacked her. She'd just given up on life in
general
then. She lived a hermit like life. She never left the apartment.
Liz
brought her her food and supplies. Maria looked at the clock. Where was
Liz
anyway? Maybe she was dead too. No, Kyle would come and tell her. Unless
of
course they both were dead. But then
the Sheriff would have come. Maybe
everyone
was dead. Or the Antorps had made everyone disappear like the skins
had.
Maria
whimpered and lay down on the bed. The bed where she'd lost her
virginity
to Michael only months before. It seemed like minutes ago as she
lay
there. She was all alone, all alone, all alone, all- There was a knock
at
the door, and Maria screamed from the startle. She sat up and began to
rock
back and forth. Go away, go away, she thought to herself. The aliens
had
killed everyone, and now they were after her. The door burst open to
reveal
Liz.
"Maria?!"
She yelled, running into the room. "Are you ok?"
Maria
nodded, still rocking. "Is everyone gone?"
Liz
shook her head. "No, everyone is here."
Maria
instantly stood up. "Michael! He's back?!"
Liz
shook head again, this time apologetically. "They're gone, Maria."
Maria
sank back down onto the bed and Liz walked back to the door and got
the
groceries. She kicked the door shut behind her and walked to the fridge
to
put the stuff away. Maria just looked at her fingernails, slowly rocking.
"Kyle
will be here soon." Liz said, walking into the bedroom and sitting in
a
chair.
"Oh,
good. He's not gone then." Maria said, rocking back and forth.
"No."
Liz said. "Only the aliens are gone." She added, under her breath.
"When
is Alex coming?" Maria asked.
"Maria,
Alex is gone." Liz said, her eyes welling up with tears.
Maria
blinked as her eyes filled with tears. Alex was gone? No. that was
impossible.
Alex would never leave her alone. Alex cared. Maria looked at
Liz,
tears streaming down her face.
"Did
he go away with Isabel?" Maria asked. Liz shook her head. "Then where
did
he go?"
Liz
looked down at her uncomfortably. She was saved by a knock at the door,
signifying
Kyle was there, finally. She stood up and walked over to the
door,
wiped away her tears, and opened the door. Kyle smiled from the other
side,
a dozen roses in his hand. He pulled one out and handed it to Liz.
"Maria
won't notice one's missing anyway." Kyle said.
Liz
kissed his cheek softly, tears still rolling softly down her own cheeks.
He
wiped them away and lifted up her chin.
"What
did I tell you when they left Liz? It'll be OK." He said.
"I
know. It's just to hard to believe that with all that's going on." Liz
replied.
"ALEX?!
Is that you?" Maria yelled from the other room.
"Has
she gone off the deep end again?" Kyle asked.
Liz
nodded. "She thinks he's alive."
Kyle
nodded, mostly to himself, and walked past Liz into the bedroom. Maria
had
tangled herself in her sheets, and was trying to pull herself loose. Liz
walked
over and untangled them. Maria just stared at the flowers in Kyle's
hand.
"If
Michael thinks that I'll take him back if he sends me flowers, he's got
another
thing coming." She said. "And he didn't even deliver them
himself?!"
Liz
cleared her throat. "The flowers are from Kyle. That's why he has
them."
Kyle
handed them to her, but Maria just gasped. "Kyle, you know my heart
belongs
to Michael. And what about Tess?" She said.
Kyle
looked down and shook his head. "She doesn't remember does she?"
Liz
sat down next to him and shook her head. "I don't know what to do.
Sometimes
she's great. Other times she's.....like this." She whispered.
"I
don't know either." Kyle replied.
"When's
dinner" Alex said he'd come make me dinner." Maria said, looking Liz
right
in the eyes.
It
killed both Liz and Kyle to look in her eyes, and not see her looking
back.
The thing before them wasn't Maria. It was a fragment of Maria. She'd
taken
the aliens leaving worse than anyone else.
"Alex
said he'd be a little late. Kyle and I will make dinner." Liz said.
She
walked into the kitchen and Kyle followed her. She got out the eggs and
bacon
and started working on Maria's breakfast. Kyle took out the pancake
mix.
Together they made breakfast, in silence. It wasn't until Kyle was
pouring
syrup over the pancakes that they spoke.
"How
are you doing?" Liz asked Kyle.
He'd
had his own little emotional breakdown after Isabel and everyone had
left.
He had helped in the killing of Alex. He'd helped Tess. And Tess was
the
only person her really trusted. He'd fallen, hard for Isabel before
she'd
left. The combination of Tess using him, Alex dying, and Isabel
leaving
really took it's toll on Kyle.
"Better
than I have been." He replied. "What about you?"
"I
got attacked last night." She said.
Kyle
winced and put the pancake pan in the sink. "Are you ok?"
Liz
nodded and dropped her own dishes in the sink. She looked from the sink
to
the food to Kyle. "Paper, Rock, Scissors?"
"Alright."
Kyle said.
They
both hit their hands into the other hand three times, then made the
symbols.
Liz had Rock, Kyle had Scissors. They did the game to decide who
would
do what- Feed Maria or Wash the dishes. The winner chose. Usually Liz
would
have chosen the dishes, but she was in a generous mood. Kyle needed a
break.
"I'll
feed today." Liz said, grabbing a fork and a knife. She put them on
the
plate, picked up the plate and went into Maria's room.
"I
can't eat without Alex. It's rude." Maria said.
"You
have to eat, Maria." Liz replied.
"Put
it down. If he's not here in an hour, I'll eat." Maria said, looking at
the
food.
Liz
nodded and sat down, grateful she wouldn't need to feed Maria. It was
weird,
having to feed her best friend since kindergarten. Maria was still
rocking,
staring at Liz.
"GET
OUT!" She suddenly screamed, pointing out of the room.
Liz
stood and walked to her to try to calm her down.
"I
WANT TO BE ALONE!" Maria yelled as soon as Liz got next to her.
Liz
kept trying, and Maria just slapped her. "I said, GET OUT!" She said.
Liz
rushed out of the room and shut the door, her face bright red. Her eyes
filled
with tears. Her best friend was gone. Maria was dead. The realization
made
her truly cry. Huge tears rolled down her cheeks and she leaned against
a
wall and slid down it to the floor. Kyle came around the corner and looked
at
her.
"Liz,
are you ok? Did she hurt you?" Kyle said.
Liz
turned her head to show him the red hand mark on her face. Kyle put his
hand
on the wound and healed it for her.
"Thanks,
Kyle." She whispered through her tears. Kyle sat down next to her
and
she rested her head on his shoulder
"Shh..it'll
be ok." Kyle said, running his hands through her hair softly,
trying
to get her to stop her crying.
It
was almost like trying to find a needle in a haystack. None of them would
ever
be ok, never again. Not after everything they'd been through. Kyle knew
how
screwed up he was. He could only imagine what it was like for Liz and
Maria,
who were actually with the guys they loved. He'd barely been able to
spend
anytime with Isabel. Kyle sighed and wiped away another tear from
Liz's
cheek. Liz just sobbed.
~~~~~~~~~~Part
3~~~~~~~~~~
Max
sighed and walked into his throne room. The crowd instantly fell to
their
knees, and bowed down to him. Their great king. Returned to them from
the
clutches of the evil earthlings. Max controlled the urge to roll his
eyes.
I want to go home. Go home, back to Earth. Back to Liz. Where I
belong.
Where I should be right now. He sat
down on his throne and
controlled
the urge to just go, grab a ship and return back to earth. But it
was
impossible. There were no ships. Not that he had found anyway. And the
one
person he'd asked never answered him. They would simply shake their
heads,
bow and walk off. So he'd just let it go. Besides, he couldn't leave
even
if he found a ship. Tess chose that moment to walk into the throne
room,
and everyone bowed again. She had Edwin in her arms, and she smiled at
him
as she joined him on her own throne.
When
they'd arrived on Antar, Tess was immediately taken from him to have
the
baby. And he couldn't be there, and
because of it, Tess named their
son.
Edwin. And she refused to change it. Michael
and Isabel had already
left
for their respective planets by that time, So he was all alone with
nothing
to do but think. And every time he'd sit down to think, his thoughts
always
drifted to Liz. The way she smelt, the way she felt in his arms. Her
kiss.
He'd nearly driven himself insane from the want of her. And the moment
Edwin
was placed in his arms, he wished that he was Liz's son and not Tess.
Max
had tried numerous times to contact his sister and his best friend, but
each
time he got a letter from them stating that they were too busy to
visit,
but be sure to send Tess their love.
"Hey
Max." Tess said, interrupting his thoughts.
Max
looked at Tess. "Hi."
He
turned and looked back out in the crowd. He'd sent Isabel and Michael
another
message. It was more than likely useless, but he still diligently
tried
to talk to them. He missed them. Max closed his eyes and tried to
picture
them. He hadn't seen them in so long, they were becoming fuzzy in
his
mind. But I can still see Liz clearly, he thought as a messenger came up
to
him. Max took the letters the boy had.
"Thank
you." He said.
The
boy nodded, bowed and walked away, just as everyone else did when Max
talked
to them or acknowledged them. He threw the letters on the table that
was
between the two thrones. Tess reached over and picked them up. She
shuffled
through them, pulled out the one that was for her, then pushed the
other
two toward Max.
