Michael closed his eyes hoping that tonight Isabel would
once again try to dreamwalk him. He had felt her nearly every night trying to
get in but he couldn’t let her but tonight he needed to talk to her. He needed
to let her know he was coming home.
Before Michael knew it he was dreaming that he was
across the street from Max and Isabel’s house. He was watching them play
basketball with their parents, like a happy family. Michael had watched them
many times. He’d always wanted to join them to be included in their family, to
be part of any family. His heart and soul ached to be with them, to be with Max.
“Why are you here? You should be with us?”
Michael turned to see Isabel standing beside him. Before
he knew it she threw himself into his arms.
“God Michael. Where have you been? We’ve missed you
so much.” Isabel said tearfully.
Michael allowed himself to hug her back. “I’ve
missed you to Iz.”
They hugged for several minutes and then Isabel pulled
back, her face clearly showing how she was struggling with her emotions.
“Where are you?”
“On my way back to
“Thank God.” Isabel closed her eyes as the tears
flowed from her eyes. “We need you, so bad Michael. Max needs you.”
“Max? What’s going on?” Michael demanded his
concern evident in his voice
“The FBI found us Michael. They took him.”
Fear flowed through him. Max captured by the FBI. He had
to get there now. Michael was about to demand that Isabel tell him everything
but Isabel cut him off. “We got him back. He is safe now but, Michael, he’s
different.”
“Different. How? What the hell did they do to him Iz?”
Michael shouted
“He is so angry, so broken. He won’t let any of us
near him. Our parents are frantic, they have him seeing a psychologist for
counseling but he’s belligerent to the man. They are talking about committing
him Michael. It’s a nightmare.” Isabel said openly crying now. She’d been
keeping it all in for so long and now that she was finally able to talk about it
with him her fear and grief was pouring out of her.
Michael pulled the sobbing Isabel into his arms. He
couldn’t believe that the person she was describing was the Max that he grew
up with, that he loved. What had caused this? “Do you know what they did to
him?”
Isabel shook her head. “He won’t talk to us. Not
even Liz. He was so mean to her that she left
“Scares you. Like he would hurt you?” Michael asked
shocked that Isabel would feel that way about her own brother. Max was the
gentlest, kindest guy he’d ever known. He would never hurt anyone.
“He has hurt us. When I said he won’t let us near
him I mean he literally won’t let us. He’s thrown me, Liz, and even Maria
out of his room using his powers. He almost knocked Maria out he used so much
energy against her.”
Michael saw red as anger simmered in his body. Max had
hurt Maria. Friend, Lover or not he was going to pay for that.
“Michael please don’t. He is still Max. He is still
our brother.” Isabel begged
“That is where you are wrong Isabel. Max is your
brother. He most definitely is not mine.” Michael said through clinched teeth.
“I’ll be home soon. And he will let me near him whether he likes it or not.
Maxwell and I have to talk. About a lot of things.”
Speaking of having to talk made Isabel realize that
Michael didn’t know about the new comers to
Michael shook his head. He couldn’t believe that he
had left
Michael had to stop his train of thought. He couldn’t
think about Zan and what he now knew. There was too much going on besides that.
“He is in
Isabel shook her head. “Not anymore. He is in
“Valenti? He knows?” Michael shouted
“We had to tell him Michael. We couldn’t get Max out
without his help. Like I said so much has happened.”
Michael felt tremendous guilt. He shouldn’t have left.
He should have been there for them. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there.” He said
solemnly
Isabel gave Michael a shocked look. In all the years
she’d known him she’d never heard him apologize for anything.
Seeing the look Isabel gave him Michael asked.
“What?”
“That is a first for you. Apologizing.” She looked
at Michael closely and could tell that Max wasn’t the only one who was
different. “You’ve changed.”
Michael nodded. “It happens. Things change. People
change. Even me.” He said with a smirk on his face
Isabel hugged Michael tightly. “I’m just glad you
are coming home. We need you.”
“It shouldn’t take me longer than a week.” Michael
said as he started to walk away. He suddenly stopped and turned “Tell Max.”
and after a minute he added “And Maria. Tell them I’m coming home.”
Isabel nodded to Michael’s retreating form and then
suddenly woke from the dream. For the first time in months she felt hope that
maybe things were going to be ok, that this nightmare that had become their
lives was finally going to end.
Isabel rushed to Max’s door and paused suddenly
anxious of what she had to do. Max’s door was locked as usual; it was always
locked these days. Max lived in his own world, surrounded by the four protective
walls of his room and anyone who dared entered his domain entered at their own
risk. This was a risk Isabel had to take. She had to tell him Michael’s news
whether he wanted to hear it or not. She prayed that Michael would be able to
deal with what he was coming home to.
“Max” Isabel said hesitantly. She could barely see
him sitting on his bed across the room.
“Get out.” Max said in a hard threatening tone
“I dreamwalked Michael. He is coming home.” Isabel
said quickly before backing out of his room. She’d barely gotten on the other
side of his doorway before the door slammed loudly in front of her face.
“Please let Michael fix him.” Isabel whispered. As
she was walking into her own room she saw her mother looking at her with pain
filled eyes down the hallway. Isabel tried to smile but it came out more of a
grimace.
Diane Evans eyes filled with tears as she watched her
daughter shut her bedroom door. She was losing her children. Something had taken
them from her, not physically but emotionally. Max was an angry, sullen stranger
and Isabel was a shell of the vibrant, strong and beautiful young woman she once
was. She prayed for a miracle to save them all.

Max smiled for the first time in months. Michael was
coming home. Finally he would have some revenge. Someone would pay for what he
suffered. Valenti had robbed him of revenge against Pierce when he killed him
but no one was going to stand between him and Michael and the punishment he
deserved. Michael was going to pay for his abandonment, for his betrayal. He
would finally know what it meant to be under the Kings command.
***
A week later…
A tired and weary Michael took a deep breath as he
finally stepped foot in
Michael stood in the middle of the quiet, dark road. Now
that he was here he didn’t know where to go first. He didn’t know if he was
ready to face Max but he knew for sure he was definitely not ready to face
Maria. He didn’t know how to tell her about what happened in
He finally decided what he had to do and stopped by a
pay phone and made a call.
“It’s me. I’m back in
Michael had a bad feeling about what was about to happen
but he knew that it had to be done sooner or later. He would take whatever was
going to happen. He had no other choice.
***
Thirty minutes later at the old Soap Factory…
“You’re late.”
“It took me longer to walk here then I remembered.”
Michael said. It was very dark in the factory the moon wasn’t even shining
through the windows. He spoke to the corner where he’d heard the voice spoken
from. “I can’t see you. It’s too dark in here.”
“Good. Now you will know what it is like.” Was spat
out venomously
Michael sighed “Ok I see the way it is going to be.
Let’s do this then.”
Michael was thrown and pinned up against the wall. He
didn’t even struggle against the crushing force. After his conversation with
Isabel he had expected it. Michael expected Max to fight him. To make him pay
and it was only fair. It was what he deserved. Michael had let his King down. He
had not been where he should’ve been, at Max’s side, watching his back. That
was his job. He was the soldier, the protector. Max had suffered because Michael
had run away and he was ready for whatever punishment Max deemed.
“Why aren’t you fighting me?” Max asked
“Why should I? I won’t win.” Michael said with
resignation. Even if he did fight Max and win he would still loose because Max
would never forgive him.
“Do it anyhow. Stop being a coward.” Max demanded
Max was definitely trying to punch Michael’s buttons
and even though he was aware of what Max was trying to do Michael couldn’t
stop himself from getting mad. Energy flowed through him and a window to the
left of him imploded.
“That’s better but still not good enough.” Max
spit out before throwing an energy blast near Michael’s head. “Fight
“I’m not doing this Maxwell. Hit me. Blast me. Do
whatever you want but I’m not fighting you.”
Max stepped out of the shadows to stand right in front
of Michael’s face. “Fight me now or I will find someone else to fight. Like
Isabel. Or better yet Maria.”
Michael’s blood turned cold. The boy that stood in
front of him now was not the same person who he’d left months before. He was a
stranger to Michael. The face was the same, albeit unshaken, but the eyes that
glared at him were not Max’s. They were not even human. They were Zan’s. The
real Zan’s.
“Zan.”
“Damn. You know who I am. I was hoping to have to beat
the memory out of you.”
“What happened to you Max? What made you this way?”
Michael asked, fear for Max as well as himself, evident in his voice.
Zan laughed. “Max is no more. The FBI made him go away
and now I’m in control. He couldn’t handle it but I could. Max is hiding in
his safe place, away from the pain and torture.”
Michael for the first time in a long time was literally
terrified. He could’ve handled Max but he knew he couldn’t handle the alien
Zan. Since his encounter with the New York Zan Michael’s memories of Rath and
the world they came from had gradually returned. Zan of Antar was powerful and,
at times, cruel and menacing. He, as Rath, had been at Zan’s beck and call.
They had been lovers and he was his second in command but more importantly
he’d been a servant to his King. Rath, the alien, could never win against Zan
so he knew that he as Michael didn’t stand a chance against him.
“Why are you, Zan, doing this?” Michael asked
“You left your King. You betrayed him when you ran
away. You should have protected him. Now you must pay.” He said
Michael admitted defeat. He thought he could help Max,
but he’d been wrong. There wasn’t anything he could do for any of them.
“You’re right. Do it then. Kill me if that is what you think I deserve.”
Zan was shocked. “You would die rather than fight me?
You are that much of a coward? Would you still allow me to kill you if I told
you I was going to hurt the people you love like Isabel or Maria?”
Michael tensed up. He’d mentioned hurting them twice
already but Michael would not let his words get to him. “You won’t hurt
them. Maxwell wouldn’t let you. He is still in there. He’d never let you do
anything to either one of them.”
He laughed. “You’d like to think so wouldn’t you?
But you are wrong. I am the one in control. No one can stop
“No I’m right. I know him; he has the purest heart
of anyone I’ve ever known and I know he would die protecting those that he
loves, even from himself.”
“Now I get it. You’re in love with him. Rath and I
were lovers on Antar, sex was always good with him. And he was a loyal soldier.
But it is different for the two of you. There is real love between you, yet you
have not been lovers. Interesting.”
“Yes I love him and nothing you do will change that.
So just go ahead and do what you are planning to do. I’m ready for it.”
Michael said
Zan gave Michael a menacing smile. “You know all this
talk about lovers and sex has gotten me horny. I think I may have to fuck you
before I kill you.”
Michael shuddered. As much as he wanted Max the thought
of this person fucking him made feel sick. “Don’t do this Max. Not like
this. I want you, I always have, but not like this. I love you Maxwell.
Please.” He begged hoping his words could reach the real Max.
Zan’s hands were at Michael pants but then he grimaced
as if he was in pain, closing his eyes, his hands going to his forehead. He
backed away from Michael, falling to his knees, screaming in pain.
“Max” Michael shouted. The force holding him against
the wall diminished and he was able to move. He quickly fell on his knees in
front of Max.
Max lifted his head and looked into Michael eyes.
“Michael” he whispered hoarsely.
Michael sighed in relief when he saw that Max’s eyes
were once again his normal amber brown instead of the cold, dark black they’d
been moments before.
“Maxwell. Are you ok?” Michael asked as he put his
hands on Max’s shoulders
“I don’t know.” Max answered honestly. His mind
was filled with an array of memories; both of their past lives and of things
that have happened since he was captured by the FBI. When Pierce and his men
started with their physical tests and abuse Max’s mind shut down to protect
him from the pain which allowed the alien presence of Zan to come forward. Zan
had been in control and Max had not even been aware of what was happening around
him. But now that Zan was repressed his memories were flooding him all at once.
It was almost more than he could take.
“You came back?” Max asked Michael.
“Yes. I got back in
“You told him that you loved me?” Max asked
remembering the conversation that Zan and Michael had just had. His mind was
having a hard time wrapping itself around the fact that Zan and Rath, on Antar,
were lovers and that Michael admitted that he loved and wanted Max now, on
Earth. “And that you want me?”
Michael’s eyes left Max’s as he looked towards the
floor. Now that he was here, speaking with the real Max, he was having a hard
time admitting his true feelings. He was afraid that Max would reject him.
“Michael, look at me.” Max demanded and when Michael
complied he asked. “Did you tell him the truth?”
Michael nodded his head and reluctantly answered
“Yes.”
Max moved closer to Michael putting his hand on
Michael’s chest. “Tell me, Michael, what you told him. Tell me so I know you
are talking to me?” he commanded
“I love you Maxwell. I always have and I want you,
now. I always will.” Michael declared.
Max leaned forward and passionately kissed a stunned
Michael. He had not been prepared from Max’s fierce attack on his lips but was
soon enthusiastically responding to Max’s passion. They tore at each others
clothes until they were both naked, their bare skin rubbing against each other,
their hands touching everywhere they could reach. Michael rolled on his back and
pulled his legs up around Max’s waist, the friction of their hard cocks
touching each other making them both moan in pleasure.
“Fuck me Maxwell. Please.” Michael begged.
“Yes” Max answered and moved his cock so that it was
at Michael’s puckered hole. Michael forced his body to relax as Max pushed his
way through the tight muscles at his opening. They both moaned once Max was in
fully inside of Michael.
“You feel so good.” Max declared. “I’ve wanted
to do this for so long. God Michael.”
Michael was hit with a jolt of desire as he heard
Max’s declaration. He shifted his body pushing Max even deeper and they
started thrusting to meet each others strokes fiercely. Minutes later they were
both shouting in release.
Max fell on the ground beside Michael as he struggled to
get his breath. He didn’t know why it had taken them so long to become lovers.
It felt so good, so right, like they were meant to be this way and he was
finally able to acknowledge out loud what he had always felt in his heart. “I
love you Michael.”
“I love you to.” Michael said quietly. He did not
know where they would go from here but he knew in his heart that they would
always be with at each others side. New York Zan was right, they were in each
others minds, and Michael would never leave his King again.
When he’d found release Max had connected with Michael
and had seen flashes of Michael’s life since leaving
Michael sat up quickly, anxiety gripping his body.
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know. I don’t even know why I let it happen…”
Max sat up as well and look into Michael eyes. “It’s
ok. I’m not mad. I’m actually grateful.” Seeing the confused look on
Michael’s face he explained. “If you had not met him, if he hadn’t told
you the things he did, and made you admit they way you really felt, who knows
how long it would have been before you had come back to me. And it took your
love to bring me back and to make “him” go away. Thank you Michael.”
Michael nodded his head and leaned forward and kissed
Max gently on the lips. “What happens now Max?”
“I guess we will have to figure that out one day at a
time. There is a lot of deal with, a lot for other people to accept but I know
one thing. You will never leave me again. And that is an order soldier.” Max
said with a teasing smile.
Michael smirked “By your command, your highness.”
The End.
